America is the result of Christians doing more than just preaching the gospel and planting churches. They did that yes. But they also applied the Bible to civil government. And that included laws to encourage Sunday worship & rest.
Owen Strachan@ostrachan

You don't need to spend a second trying to enforce Sabbath-keeping in America. No such mandate is found in the New Testament. Nor did the apostles try to impose OT law on the state. They preached the gospel and built churches. Put not your hope in law. Put it ALL in Christ!

The brevity of life has been on my mind a lot in recent years. Once it really sinks in just how short our time is it becomes impossible to even consider focusing on anything else outside of bringing glory to God and building a future for your family (and as a natural extension of this, your nation.) I find it incomprehensible to relate to anyone who doesn’t think this way. The all-consuming narcissism of our age is completely alien to my mind.

Biblically, when immigrants enter a new land, they are always expected to assimilate, and assimilation is measured in two keys ways: language and laws. First, if your nation comes to be filled with people speaking another language, it is a sign of God’s judgment (Deuteronomy 28:49, Isaiah 28:11). National identity in the Bible has a linguistic core. Second, Torah required immigrants to live as guests. They had to abide by the religion and way of life of the land they entered (Exodus 12:49, Numbers 15:29; cf. Deuteronomy 13:1ff). There was to be one law for the homeborn and the stranger in the land. There were other restrictions in certain cases. For example, in the case of immigrants coming from nations that had a history of enmity with Israel, various citizenship rights could be restricted or withheld for several generations to allow time for the immigrant to prove he was assimilating (cf. Dueteronomy 23:3-4). These are wise principles that any coherent and self-respecting nation would take seriously and apply. Most nations do. Only Western progressives reject these principles — and of course, they reject all kinds of other wise and natural principles found in Biblical law as well, including God’s design for sexuality and family, work and prosperity, etc. This is because for progressives, rejecting God’s truth is their whole project. Progressivism is just the mirror image of God’s law. Progressivism is really just humanism — the inversion of all that is good, true, and beautiful. What to know what progressives will do about an issue? Look what God says about it, and be assured they will do the exact opposite.

Regarding Eph 6:4, A.W. Pink says: “It is to be noted that the “fathers” are here specifically addressed, and this for two reasons: (1) because they are the heads of their families and their government is especially committed to them; and (2) because they are prone to transfer this duty to their wives.” This duty falls upon us, men. It is not the responsibility of the church or the state to bring up your children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. It’s not even the primary responsibility of your wife. Yes, she plays an essential role in raising your children. Mothers have their own special power and influence. However, you cannot transfer this duty onto her through absence or abdication. You are the one who must lead the way. Now, how do you lead the way? Well, our text provides a "don't" and a "do." Let’s begin with the “don’t.” Paul writes, "fathers, do not provoke your children to anger" or, as several other translations render it, "fathers, do not exasperate your children." The Greek word for exasperate means to stir someone to anger, to provoke in a way that "really pushes someone's buttons.” According to the old Webster's dictionary, it means "to anger; to irritate to a high degree; to provoke to rage." In Colossians 3:21, we find the same command with a rationale attached to it. It reads, "Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.” The NIV translates the verse as, "Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.” There is a type of exasperating fatherhood that will fill children with rage and bitterness. Sometimes it is evident on the surface, such as a wild child prone to angry outbursts or a defiant child who disobeys authority and is unkind to others. Sometimes it lies beneath the surface, manifesting in depressive, repressed children or children burdened with fears and compulsions. It can take many forms but all of which are a manifestation of discouragement. John Calvin writes, "Kind and liberal treatment has rather a tendency to cherish reverence for their parents, and to increase the cheerfulness and activity of their obedience, while a harsh and unkind manner rouses them to be obstinate and destroys the natural affections.” It is natural for your child to love you and seek your approval. However, if you consistently deny them that approval, you will embitter them and lose their affection. We mustn’t lose our children’s hearts. Discipline without love doesn't drive foolishness from the heart of a child. It only drives the child's heart from the father.

Happy to do your job for you, Councilor. Here is MORE THAN $50 MILLION in savings without touching a penny from police or fire that you chose not to cut: ❌ $1,041,566 - eliminate the DEI office ❌ $1,050,000 - eliminate taxpayer-funded legal activism including immigration legal services and tenant legal aid ❌ $1,300,000 - cut taxpayer-funded arts grants ❌ $2,000,000 - cut Indy Achieves. This is exactly the kind of program private philanthropy can fund. ❌ $5,008,434 - bye bye to all non-road DPW projects like tactical urbanism, Art in the ROW, bike paths, greenways, etc. ❌ $5,100,000 - cut the extra Housing Hub and city-county property assessment appropriation. You all are already spending over 70K per person housed with Streets to Home, which is totally unsustainable. ❌ $10,000,000 - freeze non-police OPHS grants and vendor contracts including $2M in crime-prevention grants, $4.5M for Peacemakers, and a $3.5M contract holdback until the audit problems are fixed ❌ $25,000,000 - cancel the councilor slush fund where every councilor got $1M for district pet projects while taxpayers were told there was "nothing to cut" Total: $50.5 MILLION+ For future road funding matching amounts, your own tax revenue projections show you'll take in enough additional money - without ever raising tax rates - to cover that. The problem is you all care more about the things on this list than the wallets of the working families you represent. You want them to tighten their belts so you don't have to. ¡Afuera!

@AndrewIrelandIN Where would you cut? Show me your math for $50 million this year and $100 within five years. If it's so easy to create such a plan, why didn't a single Republican do so?

Add to your reading list - excellent! "Truth is a strong god. It demands total commitement. We have replaced the struggle for truth with a commitment to an 'open' process. But a society that prides itself on having no final answers eventually finds itself no reason to exist."

If you are a Christian, especially in the West, there’s a good chance you come from a long line of Christians. Some of these were only nominally Christian or part of corrupt traditions, but God still used such things to pass on the faith you now hold. The God who keeps covenant works through Christian peoples and Christian nations to save the elect.

I had a conversation with an old acquaintance recently who believes that only evangelism really matters. After all, the world is not our home, so civil life is secondary. Building lasting things is not necessary, children are optional, having a legacy is suspect, etc. His view is that the dominion mandate has expired, and so the Great Commission is really our ultimate, only mandate. He is married, but he and his wife do not want children. Instead, they fill their time with travelling and seeing the world. Why not? If the world is going to be destroyed anyway, and the Christian life is reduced to extracting souls from the world rather than discipling men to take up their duties within it? Why invest in households, institutions, and future generations? This is a thinner Christianity than what the Scriptures portray. The point of being a citizen of heaven is not to despise earthly duties, but to be ambassadors of heaven here on earth. After all, it is still our Father’s world: “The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1). In Jeremiah 29, God did not tell exiles in Babylon to sit around waiting for escape. He told them to build houses, plant gardens, take wives, have sons and daughters, and seek the peace of the city. The Great Commission does not cancel the dominion mandate, but rather, it restores men to God so that they can order their lives toward Christ. A disembodied Christianity is not the goal. Christ saves men with bodies, spouses, children, homes, churches, grandchildren, etc. And then he restores their nature so that they can order all of these aspects of their lives for his glory. The Gospel does not make the dirt we till unimportant, and no faithful servant buries his tools because the Master is coming back.

Insane how many cool stories from our history have yet to be properly told on the big screen. Daniel Boone, Andrew Jackson and James K. Polk manifesting destiny, the Wright Brothers, Charles Lindbergh’s transatlantic flight. Literally a treasure trove of material waiting.
