Gov. Gavin Newsom officially signs legislation that cements California’s special election on November 4. Voters will be asked to simultaneously approve new Democratic drawn Congressional maps and support nationwide independent redistricting.

Looks like the California Democratic Party now has ads on Facebook claiming Republicans “voted against stronger laws protecting 16 and 17 year olds…” They actually voted against changes to a bill stating “legislative intent” which has no impact on law.

BREAKING: Gov. Newsom is getting involved after CA Assembly blocked proposal to make it a felony to purchase 16- and 17-year-olds for sex. “The law should treat all sex predators who solicit minors the same — as a felony, regardless of the intended victim’s age. Full stop.”

Spoke w/ Assem. Public Safety Chair Nick Shultz about blocking bill to make it a felony in CA to buy 16- & 17-year-olds for sex. When I asked if he's ok with what's happening on Sacramento's blade, he didn't like premise of my question but hopes law enforcement keeps engaging..

Democratic Assemblyman is concerned that this bill addressing human/sex trafficking (and was supposed to make it a felony to solicit 16 and 17 years old) will disproportionately affect black and brown communities and LGBTQI+ community.

After 3 years and countless negotiations we finally passed Ryla’s Law out of the Assembly Public Safety Committee. The bill is named after the one year old daughter of Rancho Cordova parents Ryan and Alicia Strange who was murdered at the hands of a child care worker in 2019.
