Immigrants used to give their kids American-sounding names so they would assimilate and avoid social embarrassment. A kid named "Akshit" in the 90s would have been bullied so hard he'd turn into a school shooter.
A girl I used to know whose parents were Hungarian immigrants had a very English name for this reason. The Chinese still do this, though amusingly they stick to names that fell out of fashion decades ago like "Dolores" or "Eileen."
Hell, we used to force foreigners to change their LAST names to be easier to spell and pronounce. My own last name was Anglicized from "Fournier." Al Smith, New York governor and the first Catholic to run for president, was the son of Italian immigrants who changed their name from "Ferraro" to "Smith," the English-language equivalent.
It speaks to the scale of the Indian invasion that Indians are running around with names like "Pooja Ramalamadingdong" with zero shame.

Indians all have stupid sounding Star Wars names. So tired of reading the graduation banners and half of the kids are “Prakash,” “Kumar” “Pooja” “Rajesh”. These filthy H1B anchor babies have replaced our Heritage American children. This is completely unacceptable.
