#OnThisDay in 1817, the Second Bank of the US opened in Philadelphia. The bank prospered under Nicholas Biddle in the 1820s. Biddle faced opposition from President Andrew Jackson in the 1830s. Jackson refused Biddle's attempt to renew the bank’s charter, and it closed in 1836.
