I will never refer to myself as a classical hematologist. It is pretentious, self-righteous, and harkens back to the past, to a time when all physicians were male and relatively little was known about the blood. Witness Osler's classic textbook on medicine (heme = 29/1128 pages).

@PKouides I agree with you Peter. We need to fight back against this initiative by the ASH Executive Committee. I am a modern hematologist, not a classical relic. Maybe we should call the hematologists who specialize in cancer "blood oncs"

I think I now have at ASH for the hundredth time heard the term classic hematology! What are we doing? Going back to bloodletting with leeches! Just call yourself a hematologist and enlighten the person asking you with what specific areas you do!! #ASH22 ASH22
