@RobertStock6 That is part of the reason.
-High velocity
-Poor kinematic sequencing
-Poor specific physical preparation to handle pitch type usage
Recovery modalities and workload management are better than ever before…so it is less likely those

An important reminder that just because you’re really good at repairing people’s elbows doesn’t mean you’re really good at determining why they hurt their elbows.

One of MLB's leading orthopedic surgeons is sounding an alarm on pitching injuries. Dr. Keith Meister cites the advent of the sweeper and power changeup as significant reasons for the spike. @Ken_Rosenthal and @enosarris on his findings ⤵️ theathletic.com/5325032/2024/0…

@EricCross04 So you think he is a better hitting talent than Curtis Mead? Stop lol
English

@TewksHitting @RotoClegg @Tstokey Do realize that 112 mEV is fringe (45 raw grade) among hitters worth seven or more wins offensively.....nothing to take away from the player.

@RotoClegg @Tstokey Andrew Mazzone’s exit velocities (and LA, distances) from this weekend’s college baseball series at Rockwell Family Field.
112 @ 21 = 431 ft
111.5 @ 17 = 401 ft
109 @ 26 = 435 ft
104 @ 23 = 405 ft
111 @ 36 = 476 ft

@XFactorTechn
InPlay%
HARD (FF/FT/FC)
BREAK (CV/SL/SW)
SOFT (CH/SPL)
B. Bichette 33/38/52%
JP Crawford 44/39/33%
G. Henderson 36/35/38%
The distributions are diff, does higher HARD than SOFT, opposite or balanced across mean something different for timing?
English

@drivelinekyle @EliBenPorat @levy_cameron Instead on determining in game intention (difficult), as I have advocated for just create a “command:stuff” test everyone does as a baseline assessment.
What you will find out is the gap/threshold b/t a pitch types range for best command and its range for best stuff.
English

My theory is that we should be building stuff models per strike zone region, rather than just a stuff model without any location context. It’s just a hunch right now, but we’ll see when I finally build one.
Down on the Farm@downonthefarm12
@EliBenPorat The stuff part, without location, is much more predictive. Location is noisier than pure stuff.
English

@JohnEcreel Don’t get me wrong, you were highlighting pitch “performance” in terms of RV and most of them were fastballs.
That’s not the same thing as saying all those fastballs don’t posses traits that can be effective in the big leagues.
English

I wonder why none of the Major Leaguers on this list thought of this idea.
Slay Jr@ItDiscovers
@JohnEcreel Have better command and execute pitches more consistently.
English

@TreadHQ @TeddyStuka Can’t throw strike. If your gonna promo the kid atleast show him throwing strikes

@swingTHENhit @XenPenny We see this pretty consistently. The lead arm reacts to the trunk rotation by being pulled inward into the chest. Helping to align itself parallel to the shoulders. Good hitters can manipulate the lead arm to change their swing radius as an adjustment.
English

@XenPenny Again, we need to use in game to train from not cage work. Lead arm is in completely different positions because of, or lack of, prior movements.

English

@XenPenny This is not an argument but I think @XFactorTechn would confer
3 swings w/relatively the same pitch location/speed
3 different LA trajectories & 2 different spray angle trajectories.
Look at the loft on that 2nd swing 🤔 were any of those swings optimal timing? #HittingTwitter

@j_mckenney15 @LanceBroz @AriA1exander How can a guy who hasn’t thrown a pitch in the big leagues be in the first tier? Maybe he has com-probable talent but not one of the best pitchers yet IMO.
Ohtani wasn’t one of the best hitters when he arrived, but one of the best talents for sure
English

@LanceBroz @AriA1exander So does Rodriguez. He was sent down to triple-a for a bit last season and pitched horribly in the playoffs
English

@XFactorTechn As a scout did you put any weight on hitters routines leading up the taking live ABs?
English

@RichardLovelad1
Richard is a very unique arm & glad he signed. Ur arm action creates good lag.
In this sequence ur hip/shoulder differential is fine in the 1st pic. You see by pic 2 the gap is closing before foot strike, quickly. You have more! Reach out to @BauerOutage

Chatted with a non-Cubs scout last week who attended Driveline’s Pro Day and he thought Lovelady looked the best of all the arms who threw.
It didn’t feel worth mentioning at the time. Now it feels a bit more relevant!

Congrats to Richard Lovelady on signing with the Cubs from Pro Day 🔥🔥🔥 Here's his pro day bullpen 🙌
