#WATCH | Tamil Nadu: On the occasion of Chitra Pournami, Lord Varadaraja Perumal graced devotees by descending into the underground Nadavaavi Well, located in the Ayyangar Kulam area near Kanchipuram, and bestowed his blessings. A large number of devotees thronged the place, chanting “Govinda, Govinda” as they had darshan of the Lord. In Kanchipuram revered as the “City of Temples” Lord Varadaraja Perumal, one of the deities of the Divya Desams, traditionally visits the Sanjeevirayar Temple situated at Ayyangar Kulam on the day of Chitra Pournami. After undergoing the ceremonial Thirumanjanam (holy ablution), the deity is taken into the Nadavaavi well, located about 20 feet underground, where he blesses the devotees. Accordingly, on Thursday night, the idol of Sri Varadaraja Perumal was taken in a glass palanquin from the temple and taken in procession through Ayyangar Kulam, Punjai Arasan Thangal, Thoosi, and nearby villages, blessing devotees along the way until yesterday evening. Following this, special Thirumanjanam was performed at the Sanjeevirayar Temple. Adorned with multi-colored garlands, the Lord was then taken down into the Nadavaavi well. After circumambulating the sacred tank three times, a special Deeparadhana (lamp worship) was performed, and Sadari, Theertham, and Prasadam were distributed to the devotees.

The project now stands as a true ‘Connecting Link’, reducing travel time by nearly 30 minutes. The 22.33-metre-wide tunnel in the Lonavala region has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s widest tunnel. Stretching from Khopoli exit to Sinhagad Institute, it is equipped with advanced safety systems including fire-fighting, water mist technology, emergency telephones, tunnel connectors, CCTV, a control room and an Intelligent Traffic Management System. The project also features India’s tallest cable-stayed highway bridge at 182 metres, designed over three years using wind tunnel modelling, reflecting engineering excellence. Appreciate the efforts of MSRDC, PWD teams and all workers who made this project possible under challenging conditions.
