Because women are jealous creatures who will fight for the attention of men, even if that attention is not sexual in nature. A wife will never love you as much as your mom will. The problem is too many men nowadays pedestalize their wives, and the wives end up losing respect for them. It doesn't mean you shouldn't love your wife. But it does mean you have the self-respect to set your own schedule and tell her the yard/dishes/whatever will have to get done later if your mom is dealing with health issues or needs help she can't get from your dad due to his age.
