A traffic stop can look routine, but there's no such thing for the officer walking up to that window. They never truly know who or what they're facing, or how desperate someone might be. That kind of uncertainty takes grit. I want to take a minute and pause. Zoom out with me. Let’s look at the big picture here. We are a society that has, for better or for worse, decided blackface/whiteface and racial caricature in general goes against our values. We are also a society that is making an exception for that rule, so long as we’re making fun of and attacking the widow of a man who was brutally murdered in cold blood. Taking these two datapoints into account, we are a society that deserves some plagues or even an asteroid at this point. I can assure you with my whole chest, that if this were a White person doing blackface to smear the widow of an assassinated Democrat, my reaction would be no different. Participating in this is a one way path to Hell. Go along with it at your own risk, but don’t come crying to me about “social order” or the “division” in this country ever again.
