1) bioinformatically, MT-genes are not always a good marker for bad quality cells and this approach should be reconsidered. 2) cellular pathology can look quite different in different brain regions and 3) oligodendrocytes (and other cells) downregulate canonical markers in AD.

I dont know how much science is still happening here...but lets see. We have just released the first major paper of the Jäkel lab! biorxiv.org/content/10.648… Looking at scRNA-seq in human AD brains with a major focus on oligodendrocytes, we made some interesting findings:

Working part time as a parent in certain positions is probably the biggest scam. You are still expected to do the same amount of work in less time for less money.

Really emjoyed our session yesterday afternoon at #GLIA2025 on oligodendrocytes with @LuiseASeeker @GoCasteloBranco and others. We had a brilliant discussion aftwrwards. The glia community is always great!

Hurler et al. report that fixation times affect mRNA detection in post-mortem human brain tissue, highlighting the need for standardised protocols to ensure reliable and comparable results in mRNA studies. Read at:buff.ly/4hSYhYA @JekyllSarah #mRNA #neuroscience

Today marks a special day in my career - I received the official document that as of February, I will be a professor at TU in Munich. There are certainly many people who supported me all along the way to achieve this goal. I am really looking forward to the next steps.

Incredibly happy and proud to share our newest work in @ScienceTM showing that Aβ promotes neuronal hyperconnectivity, thereby driving tau spread across connected brain regions. Many thanks to to first authors @SebRoemer and Fabian Wagner! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… Thread below

Are you using 5xFAD mice to study Alzheimer’s disease? Our work @NeuroCellPress may be relevant to you 🐁 Age and sex are known to influence Aβ plaque burden in these mice. Here, we found that the transgene parentage is another strong determinant. (1/11) cell.com/neuron/fulltex…

The first paper of the Jäkel lab is published! Are you working with post-mortem brain tissue and want to detect RNA in FFPE tissue? Then you should consider the fixation time before your experiment. Nice collaboration with @liebscher_lab doi.org/10.1093/brainc…
