I'm always complaining about emotionally stunted, sadsack/self-esteem-obsessed Asian American culture, so I wrote about it for @curaffairs. America loves insane, dark, and depraved Asians. So why do we Asian Americans portray ourselves as so boring? currentaffairs.org/2022/06/asian-…

For @the_met_review, I wrote about Lena Dunham’s Famesick. A great book, but I was more interested in why everyone was so mad at her in the 2010s, especially her peers. And why is everyone so much nicer to her now? And why do I find that malicious? (link to piece below)

Enjoyed Slanted from @bleeckerstfilms more than I expected, so I wrote about how its blunt premise, the rising backlash against "cut fruit diaspora" culture, and my own experiences in the last 10ish years signal a shifting and maturing Asian American culture (link to essay below)

With all the hilarity surrounding Asian American culture in the past month (see Hatchling, among other things), I've had a chance to re-share my 2022 essay, "American American Psycho," first published in @curaffairs, many times. So here it is again! (link to full essay below)

While midnight release parties were going on for Sally Rooney's Intermezzo (which I hope to read and review soon), I was lurking in the shadows with Rejection by Tony Tulathimutte. A snippet from my review at Salieri Redemption (link in bio):

Lots of nanny discourse lately. For @clereviewbooks, I wrote how recent nanny novels like Luster by Raven Leilani highlight the social tensions between white women and WOC in elite spheres. Link in reply. There's a paywall, so subscribe to CRB! Thanks to @wanna_bri for editing.

Sonny pick his 7 Best friends. 1. Harry Kane I can't not choose Kane. He's a legend. It's a big honor for me to play and have great records along with player like him. He always asks me "Sonny, when will you play golf?"~

What’s your favorite recent American novel where nothing much happens, and the stakes are existential? Similar to the European stuff in translation everyone loves. Published in the last couple of years, let’s say. No heavy-handed politics.
