'I don't want to seem tight': How much should you give to the year-end teacher collection? bbc.in/4vxsjaO

Yes. I read it as a child. Because it’s a children’s book.
We keep lowering standards for children’s media and then wonder why kids can’t read or grasp complex concepts.
Running into words you don’t know is part of the learning experience. Not an insurmountable obstacle.
pete@pete_churchill
@bazashc Have you ever read it??? It’s 100% not a children’s book and whoever says that is lying to you. Not only is the vernacular dated and elaborate but the sentence structure and lengthy writing is often hard to get your head around as an adult. Love that book! but it’s not for kids

@fwtimini It's not entirely useless tho cuz what uses the most amount of water in the agriculture industry is producing food to feed/maintain livestocks and producing animal products, which we don't really HAVE to 😕 (not defending AI or golf courses in any way btw, hate them both)

@marcusstanforth @Team_English1 We did 'The Facility' linked to Antigone a couple of years ago.

Planning for the year ahead, does anyone in @Team_English1 that could suggest any Greek plays that work well for Year 8? It's a bonus if it links to one of the myths. #TeamEnglish
English

@scriptwren Agreed. M&S pairs from years ago have outlasted them.

@jenatlionra Important and insightful. Thank you for sharing the reality: I feel that the message here is to write your own CV/resume and not to completely depend on AI. You've proven precisely why we shouldn't lean so heavily on such a system.

@ENortonHistory @britishmuseum Maybe 16,000 other people were as excited, interested and as curious as you.
English

Hey @britishmuseum I just waited in a virtual queue for nearly four hours to book members’ tickets for the Bayeux Tapestry and this is what I got when I finally got to the front of the queue. There are now more than 16,000 people ahead of me when I join the queue. How is this acceptable? @drfsawtell

I genuinely don’t think people understand how insane this is.
In just 50 years, we’ve wiped out around 70% of animal populations on Earth.
Not hundreds of years ago.
Not ancient history.
In one lifetime.
Entire species disappearing.
Forests going silent.
Oceans being emptied.
And somehow the world treats it like just another statistic instead of a full-blown emergency.
That should scare all of us a lot more than it does.

The internet used to be full of websites; there were millions of them and you could browse for hours and come away smarter rather than dumber. Now there are four sites and they've made half the population illiterate. We've destroyed a wonderful thing, and it has destroyed us.

I can't properly describe to anyone under the age of 30 just how cool the Internet was before Amazon, Google, Meta, and Apple turned it all into a walled garden of garbage and commerce.

@PolitlcsUK Fresh fruit, bread and many unprocessed (fresh/frozen) items are on the list and not all are unhealthy, either. Not necessarily what I would choose but outside of the sweets/sugar there are meals, snacks and options.
