Yesterday I had the pleasure of addressing the graduates @UMich commencement. I spoke about the long history of student activism, which has moved the University toward justice. Here is a video. It has caused a furore on social media & in UM admin. youtube.com/watch?v=iu0xsQ…

@mattyglesias You sound like an idiot when you write shit like this. Maybe just admit Platner is a bad person with a very questionable past.

Another example — I agree that the tattoo situation reflects somewhat poorly on him in a non-specific way, but what is the specific worry a voter is supposed to have about Platner? Yes, he gets a pass on being a Nazi because progressives think he’s progressive (ie not a Nazi)
Erick Erickson@EWErickson

All those years of lectures by Democrats about character and they embrace a man who got a tattoo of the symbol used by those who executed the Jews in the holocaust. But he says he’s a communist, not a Nazi, so they are okay with it. “But Trump” can excuse anything for the Left.

What is the upshot of the Platner tattoo discourse? Let's say I find his story fishy. I'm supposed to worry that this seemingly left-wing guy supported by all the left-wing people is secretly a Nazi just pretending to be a progressive populist?

I’ve been fascinated by Graham Platner’s campaign and his ability to survive a string of controversies and thrive against the Dem establishment For this past weekend’s “Media Front” — my last at TheWrap — I talked to @aseitzwald about Platner’s deep engagement with Maine voters and the media, and the politics of posting through it thewrap.com/commentary-ana…

@jimgeraghty Spare me the right wing hand wringing over supposed left wing antisemitism. Rs have been harboring antisemites for decades. Whatever reason he has this tat, everyone deserves redemption. Unlike, say, Hegseth, his words do not reflect the hateful ideology behind the tattoo.

@jimgeraghty @davidfrum I’m not impressed with Platner for sure. But as a member of a generation of people who got & admired lots of body art (tho not my thing) having a tat of Nazi-adjacent symbolism may horrify some, it’s the modern equivalent of having had a tacky rug or a waterbed in college.

First responders in York County now have a world-class training center that is already making a difference. 🚒🚑👮   Roger Hooper and other first responders have worked for this for decades and I secured $3.4M in federal funding to help make their dream become a reality. I was proud to stand with York County firefighters, EMTs, police officers, dispatchers and other county officials to unveil this state-of-the-art facility, which is the largest single investment in first responders in Maine history. This investment will help ensure that those who risk their lives to keep us safe have the ongoing training needed to protect them too!

The Platner tattoo story isn’t about Platner. It's about the people who spent years calling everyone on the Right a Nazi for the slightest association, only to line up like rank-and-file partisans behind a Democratic Senate candidate who wore a literal SS Totenkopf tattoo for 18 years. It's a story about how years and years of moral indignation from the Very Serious People™ class proved to be a paper-thin veneer over your team jerseys.

Dems called Elon Musk a Nazi for waving to a crowd. But now they're embracing the lying fraud Graham Platner — who is so antisemitic he proudly got a Nazi SS tattoo.

I just spoke with @GrahamForMaine about Tucker Carlson telling the NY Times' @LuluGNavarro he wants to meet Platner. I asked Platner if he'd appear on Tucker's show - and how he thinks about engaging with conservative media. Full interview will be on The Lever's YouTube page.

Platner has been all across the state addressing this while billionaire-backed super PACs flood our airwaves. Mainers have seen these ads already, and don’t like out-of-state big money telling them what to think when they can hear directly from Platner and decide for themselves.
Hutch@hutchinson

The climate might be so bad for republicans that Platner wins regardless, but the voters of Maine haven’t yet been bombarded with ads highlighting his tattoo + volumes of problematic Reddit posts. GOP is going to pour tens of millions into that race. It is going to be brutal.
