@varadmehta For all the talk about the pre-2016 GOP's dead-enders, the same could be said about libertarians. For about two weeks in the Spring of 2013, libertarians were having their Moment. Never to be repeated.

@jaycost @MichaelWatsonDC And the funniest part about that election is that Mike Castle would go on to serve as campaign chair for Trump in Delaware during the 2016 primary and Christine O'Donnell became an ardent NeverTrumper.

@neontaster It's literally the same logic a lot of people use to support Trump....and it makes perfect sense! "He's an asshole, but he's *our* asshole."

For fuck's sake, just say "he's going to vote the way I want, and he's the kind of shithead to be extremely unapologetic about it, so I'm willing to overlook a lot in pursuit of that." At least I'd respect your honesty.

I don't buy Sarah Longwell's "Platner apologized and deserves grace" argument because if the person apologizing for a Nazi tattoo were running as a republican, she would have used his politics as evidence that he wasn't contrite enough to earn that same grace.

SE2E04 of "The Pitt" has a great plotline about how @BarackObama signature achievement, the Affordable Care Act, is a disgraceful failure.

Still think its hilarious an American strategy game needed a theme and someone said "what if a Gospel Choir sung the Our Father in Swahili?" They responded sure, made a cinematic, and it was the hardest open/ad for a game ever. youtu.be/IJiHDmyhE1A?si…

@michaelbd There were about 15 scenes last season where I was half expecting the writer / show creator to break the fourth wall and yell at the audience: "So that was a pretty crazy scene, right? RIGHT? Amazing performance right? SAY IT'S AMAZING"

I know as a journalist we don't express opinion. But it is disgusting for a United States Senator to make a joke like this about a colleague.

@ReubenR80027912 Also - Bernie Sanders deciding not to launch a primary campaign against Obama in 2012 is an underrated reason of why progressivism is more ascendant today and not consigned to an ash heap for another generation in the Democratic Party.

I suppose it’s true that Obama did not personally lead Lloyd Blankfein down the Westside Highway in fetters …but if that’s your political litmus test (as it appears it is for Mr Kulinsky) I world simply adjust down my expectations b/c I am not a child

What’s funny is Obama did the realistic version of this fantasy…and Kyle & progressives HATED him for it For 8yrs there was ceaseless Wall St bashing (which is why smart millennials went to tech), healthcare became *the* central policy of Ds & foreign policy was appeasement
Secular Talk ([email protected])@KyleKulinski

Euphoric. We thought the Bush regime criminals and wall street criminals would go to prison, we'd get universal healthcare and college. We'd tax the rich and revive the new deal. We all believed "the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice"

@BenjySarlin @SeanTrende @EggerDC Fun little thought experiment - if Rubio is somehow the nominee in 2028, does the Dispatch support him? Not even going to entertain the possibility of the Bulwark doing so because they’re functionally an arm of the left even if they cannot admit it.

I also think time changes all 3. It feels increasingly ridiculous in 2026 to go “Yep, once this storm passes our bastion of Reaganism Classic will take the party back and we can resume our old fights.” Bulwark’s preparing for generational war on Trumpism. NR looking for peace. Dispatch going the Benedict option.

Honestly I don't find this psychological explanation compelling at all. The big difference is positional.
Sean T at RCP@SeanTrende

@charlescwcooke The difference between the Bulwark and the Dispatch I think is this: The Dispatch treats Trump as a bad president who should be opposed when appropriate. The Bulwark treats him as the Satan of a Catholic Baptism, where you're morally bound to reject all his works and promises.
