The size of my house in retirement is no one’s business, and my downsizing will in no way make it easier for Gen Z to own a home. I paid my dues & sacrificed to own it. They can & should put in the work to obtain something of enduring value. It won’t be handed to them.

I think, regardless of age, once you pay off your house you shouldn’t pay anymore property tax, why do I need to perpetually “rent” my own property from the government that I paid for 30 years to own.

I agree. In fact, nobody who has paid off their mortgage should pay property taxes. If you own it, you shouldn’t be paying taxes on it over and over again.
