@PaulineHansonOz You may have underestimated the amount of foreign owned: empty or ridiculously overpriced for rent houses, just slightly, Pauline. Maybe half a million per city or so.

I don't think foreigners should own Australian homes or agricultural land. I wouldn't just ban new purchases, I'd give every foreign owner two years to sell to an Australian or get repossesed.

@LundukeJournal I get that a lot of us have big nostalgia for Xorg et al. I, too, miss the days where init scripts and many other things were easily understandable and didn't require arcane invocations, but.... *are* that many people really using the old stuff really??

Is Flatpak, the Linux packaging system, getting ready to drop X11 support and implement hard requirements of Wayland and systemd? It looks that way. Flatpak 2, aka Flatpak-next, “removes all prior legacy tech, X11, init systems no one is using.” This according to Jorge Castro, Head of Ecosystems at the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (part of The Linux Foundation), who presented on the topic at the Linux Application Summit this last week. When asked for clarification on if this means the “Flatpak 2” will require systemd, the Linux Foundation representative stated, “Are you serious? Of course.”

If you want to go and remove Wayland support from an DE, it's your project, do what you want with it, but do keep in mind that by doing so you're never going to see widespread adoption on Linux. If you want to change the direction from Wayland, going back to X11 is not it.
probono@probonopd

Great to see a desktop environment that actively removes #Wayland dependencies. Way to go @SonicDesktop. Let's liberate our systems from all components controlled by XDG/Red Hat that have been holding back open source desktops for decades. github.com/Sonic-DE/sonic…

@XLibreDev Wasn't handled perfectly but there is still, if only a mention of xlibre on the wiki in the General Recommendations, not as a separate article. I'm assuming if it ever hits the main repo that would maybe change? Or this snippet is a mistake they forgot to remove lol

@LundukeJournal If it's anything like the Californian bill, it will just ask you your date of birth on install. You just have to lie and tell it you were born in 6/9/420. As much as I hate governmental control this one is inoffensive.

A new national law has been introduced to require all Operating Systems to have mandatory Age Verification. House Resolution 8250 : “To require operating system providers to verify the age of any user of an operating system, and for other purposes.” The Federal bill was introduced by Rep. Josh Gottheimer, Democrat from New Jersey. And is co-sponsored by Elise M. Stefanik, Republican from New York. The full text of the bill has not yet been made publicly available (but is expected shortly). congress.gov/bill/119th-con…

@LundukeJournal It would be really funny if someone forked Gnome 49 with X11 support and called it something like MAGA desktop.

Here we see two high profile Open Source people (Red Hat & GNOME) discussing the problem with what they call “MAGA/Linux”. Discussions like this have been increasing among Open Source organizations and projects lately. They are very upset that “MAGA/Linux” is “gaining traction”. What, exactly, is “MAGA/Linux”? The definition seems vague, but you’ll see words like “XLibre”, “Lunduke”, & “OpenMandriva” regularly associated.
