Friend of mine is 35 years old, married and doesn’t want kids. His household income is roughly $300k/yearly and his house is nearly paid off. They invest a good portion of their income for retirement, take multiple yearly vacations and live a nice life. I think people like this are going to regret not having kids in their future. One day when he’s old all he will have to look back on is the random stuff he bought and wasted money on. Instead of putting that money towards having kids and building a family he’s choosing consumerism. This just seems so wasteful and boring to me.

@potbellyman123 @UziCryptoo I generally agree with this but these people were just most likely destroyed by feminist propaganda. I would love if everyone had it in them to rise to the challenge of parenthood

@DavvidMarrtin @hell_line0 We are over 8 billion and climbing, we are not threatened to go extinct by not enough people. Too many people will likely cause mass extinction. Of course we are already seeing the negative effects of that and only going to get worse until the population is lowered somehow.

Women do not owe the world an increase in birth rates. Every few months there’s a new headline: “Fertility crisis.” “Declining birth rates.” “Who will take care of the ageing population?” And every time, the finger points at women. Have more children. Sacrifice more. Save the economy. But let’s be clear: women are not incubators for GDP. We are not vessels for demographic policy. We are human beings with autonomy.

@WhiteTemplar87 @hell_line0 Yes it is a huge sacrifice for 20 plus years. Looks like you are just getting started on the sacrificing, with a baby . If anyone tells you differently, they are lying. Of course there are good moments. Anything great requires so much sacrifice

@vardtaken @hell_line0 The birth rate needs to decrease dramatically, and it will by our choice or mother nature will do it for us. The population is making new records constantly. We are somewhere over 8 billion. Everyone knows this, so the post makes zero sense.

@hell_line0 No. Women do have a responsibility in society to keep the birthrate high. Thats part of living in a society. We all have duties. Its not free. It comes with social costs, burdens, responsibilities, but also privileges like computers, food, education, healthcare etc.

Genuinely curious—why don’t more people use their own parents/kid’s grandparents for childcare as opposed to daycare/preschool/nannies (which seem more common)? Is it common for boomer grandparents to show disinterest in their grandchildren?

@uppityhobbit Let’s see, the grandparents are working full time, parents are traveling and enjoying life while they still can get around, parents have already raised their kids so don’t want to be full time nannies.

First of all. Many new grandparents aren’t boomers. We are GenX. Also as many people have pointed out, a lot of them are still working. Personally. I am the daycare for my grandbaby. I adore her and I wouldn’t have her in institutionalized daycare for anything BUT after raising my own four sons (full time stay at home homeschool mom) I was really looking forward to more freedom to go visit my parents, time to work on my business, time to acquire new skills, etc. I know she is more important than leveling up my weaving or selling another shirt or whatever - but still, I kinda wanted to do my own thing, y’know?

@MelissablasekNH @ronrule Yes with the OPs logic. Except you aren’t paying direct tuition to public schools. Your tax is to educate the masses, which we are all responsible for doing.

@ronrule Then shouldn’t everyone who doesn’t have a child in public school be exempt?

If you homeschool your kids, you should be exempt from the portion of your property taxes that goes to the local schools.

@GrowAllYourFood @ronrule The public funds for education have already gone out to public schools. If you want something else, that’s on you. Anyway, you aren’t paying direct tuition with your taxes, you are paying for public education for the masses, so that we don’t have a stupid electorate.

@ronrule I like what you are saying but it's not quite good enough. If you homeschool your kids you must be funded the same amount that the state spends on public school children, per child , or that- whichever is higher.

@ronrule Why is that? Property tax for schools is to ensure free education for the masses, so that people can make wise decisions when voting and have skills to carry on society. It’s not you paying your kids teacher’s salary. Empty nesters and childless couples also pay school taxes.

If someone asked for books for their baby shower (for the child, not the mom), what would you buy? I have several ideas already, but I’m always looking for more!

Every time someone says “who will take care of you when you’re old?” I wonder why their retirement plan is unpaid labor from a future adult who didn’t ask to be here.

@AlvinMutyaba @Nithya_Shrii It would be so good for the earth. The goals are to reduce population world wide. It would be best for everyone. Population can’t keep going up and up.

@Nithya_Shrii Your plan is to use my children taxes to pay for your medical care and pension. So really not so different People who don’t have kids require the same pension as people with kids If 30% of population doesn’t have kids then we will be heading for serious problem in the future

@Rationale_Male @Nithya_Shrii No, that’s not fair. The kids did not choose to exist. Parents forced them into existence. Kids owe their parents nothing.
