🌍 Let's say the UN tells you: "We will give each of your citizens $200,000 USD as a one time payment. In return, you will let in 1 million Muslim migrants from various countries". Would you accept it or reject it?

@harukaawake I don't know much about the Shinto religion, but I did visit many shrines while in Japan. They are beautiful places of pure japanese culture that deserve respect. Anyone who would dishonor them like this deserves to be booted out of your country immediately.

@EllipticalMan @LuciaLobosvilla I read many of them. Page count is irrelevant when you get into a good book. I would burn through Harry Potter books in days right when they came out. You only feel the pages when you're reading something that isn't interesting to you.

Yes. I read it as a child. Because it’s a children’s book. We keep lowering standards for children’s media and then wonder why kids can’t read or grasp complex concepts. Running into words you don’t know is part of the learning experience. Not an insurmountable obstacle.
pete@pete_churchill

@bazashc Have you ever read it??? It’s 100% not a children’s book and whoever says that is lying to you. Not only is the vernacular dated and elaborate but the sentence structure and lengthy writing is often hard to get your head around as an adult. Love that book! but it’s not for kids

@mattforney If you want to make a point, you might try to use examples from things you actually know something about next time. Otherwise, you have a high likelyhood of making yourself look like an ignoramus fool, like you've done here.

Reports claim Sony believes it doesn’t need to stay in close contact with PlayStation fans because it trusts the strength of the PlayStation brand and the loyalty of its community. According to the reports, Sony expects players to keep buying its games as the company moves toward a digital-only future. They also believe the backlash over ending physical PlayStation game production will eventually stop and most players will eventually adapt to buying games digitally.

@Bruwulf I was reading DragonLance novels in elementary school and Jordan's Wheel of Time series once I got to middle school. Wasn't aware of Lord of the Rings until later in life but I would of loved reading it as a kid.

@Matthewwa25 @chrisrobovan @SawyerMerritt Amish aren't going around pushing everyone to live like they do, and at least they live their philosophy. These environmentalists will fight to drag us back into the stone age while enjoying all the benefits of modern technology. Hypocrites.

@ajroo @SmashJT The Dreamcast actually had a lot of great games though. Kinda doubt we get that for PS6 given the current state of things. Sony would have to make some radical changes yesterday to deliver a comparible library.

People have been saying phone gaming is going to take that next step for years. We've had powerful phones and tablets for over a decade now and no advancement has happened. Its just a different market and I don't think that's changing anytime soon. Small touchscreens are terrible for any type of complex game controls, and you aren't going to get enough people to carry around controllers to have a market big enough market to target that.

@americansulla @Grummz I said this 2 days ago on here, with RAM prices, mobile gaming will take massive leaps forward. Everyone needs a phone. A separate console is relatively unnecessary at this point. The problem isn't the hardware, it's just that they're not making games for phones yet.

It's begun. XBOX has been cancelling vendors and PR agency according to Jason Schrier. The big layoffs are coming soon, timed to end of fiscal calendar in July. The great cleansing. And much needed pruning of AAA development to get back to a leaner core that wants to actually win by listening to gamers...we can hope.

This is what game studios need to get back to. Building games purely based on what business and marketing people think gamers want is part of whats led to the current collapse. When the objective was just to sell as many copies as possible there was decent alignment between business people, devs, and players. Now they are all at odds with each other. Business people want as few games as possible, all built for maximum money extraction. Fun is secondary. Devs want prestige, huge budgets, and long dev cycles. They want to make fun games but thats secondary to keeping that funding rolling in. And gamers just want lots of fun games to play at reasonable prices.

The way id Software did our games is based on the fact that John Carmack wanted to make the most awesome game technology possible. The rest of the team didn't care as much about tech, but we wanted a game that was super fun - that WE ourselves wanted to play. The philosophy was if WE wanted to play it, there would be other people bent like us to buy it. This is also Ensemble Studios philosophy. We wanted to play a game like Warcraft, but with real historical units, campaigns, and nations. We thought that would be cool. And we believed other people would also think it was cool. The link here is that id Software, Ensemble Studios, and other successful companies didn't try to mold or change our fans. We just wanted to make the fans happy. We also all played the bejeezus out of our games, because we LIKED them. As a side benefit, this also helped us find bugs and polish the games. 2/2

The most arrogant thing a company can do is tell customers what they (the customers) "ought" to want. How's that restructuring going, Ubisoft? Shares still down 50% from a year ago? As a business, it's your job to satisfy them, not to preach to them. And especially not to "fix" them. The punishment for such egomania is automatic. So the situation self-corrects over time. 1/2

Here's my first Waymo ride in Nashville last night. It started off well, but the vehicle got confused and stuck 4 minutes in. After about 10 minutes of trying, rider support got it moving again, but then it couldn't continue, so they had to escalate to another specialist. After another ~10 minutes, they said the Waymo could not complete the trip, and that I should call an Uber or Lyft ride to reach my destination. I was 3-4 minutes from my destination when the Waymo initially got stuck. The vehicle was on call with support for about 20 minutes in total. While it would have been nice to reach my destination lol, I'm honestly not mad about it because it was interesting to see the whole process of them trying to get it going again and how Waymo support deals with situations like this (which are pretty rare). The support team was really nice and communicative. Have to fly back home to New England tomorrow, but hopefully will try another robotaxi ride in Nashville in the future, and of course other cities.
