We modeled potential habitat suitability of the invasive pathogen Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (deadly to salamanders) and incorporated salamander #biodiversity and tourist visitation rates to identify high priority monitoring areas.

As I reflect on my sabbatical, I’m proud to share that I’ve dedicated much of my time to developing a free, online e-book: Applied Geostatistics in Python: A Hands-on Guide with GeostatsPy 📘💻. Looking back, with 32 comprehensive chapters—each featuring theory, code, data, and fully documented workflows—I feel a deep sense of accomplishment ✨. This resource is not just a collection of technical content but a practical guide to mastering geostatistics in Python 🔍📊. Leaving industry to join academia has been an incredible opportunity to give back 🎓, and I’m thrilled to see the positive feedback from those learning and applying #geostatistics 🙌. It’s been an exciting journey, and I can’t wait for more people to explore this content 🌍. Check it out here: geostatsguy.github.io/GeostatsPyDemo… ∀.

.@WWF @TheWCS The conservation model in DRC, based on the creation of people-free wilderness areas, has resulted in horrific abuses, while Protected Areas are left open to resource extraction. #Indigenous communities should not be excluded from their ancestral land but should be central actors in conservation efforts & recognized as stewards of their lands. @ndycurrier @LongoFiore @Survival @landislife @MinorityRights @BuzzFeed @MongabayOrg @ICCAConsortium @GRAIN_org @11thHour @josephvlee @Oleshangay @DenisMoses14

New report unveils how conservation NGOs @WWF @TheWCS running some of #DRC’s national parks have failed to address horrendous atrocities committed against #Indigenous communities by security forces & ecoguards responsible for “environmental protection” & yet @KfW_int @giz_gmbh @USFWS continue to finance material support & training. It’s interesting that team size plays a role in attrition from academia, especially for #WomeninSTEM and international scholars. Larger teams hoard the funding and prestige, and those caught in the middle struggle to get tenure-track positions 🧐. science.org/content/articl…

Out now! Joan Martínez-Alier and Goutam Karmakar examine the discourses of the Anthropocene, the Capitalocene, political ecology, and the Entropocene, exploring environmental (in)justices and focussing on decolonial approaches to addressing them. tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108…

Assuming decolonial work equates with Global South is so damaging (and invisibilizing of) to Indigenous EJ activism and existing North/South EJ activist connections. Not recognizing the actual histories of EJ scholarship and practices in activism actively harm the movement. 2/3
