The debt has come due - bit.ly/4gJa66t This summer the collector stopped warning and started billing: France's heat record broken again, red alert across two-thirds of its departments; the UK Met Office's rare red extreme-heat warning; Billings, Montana's hottest day ever at 43.9°C; 165 million Americans under heat warnings; the WHO calling extreme heat a public health emergency across 41 nations. Two centuries of unpriced carbon debt, and the interest — methane, 82 times more potent than CO₂ over twenty years — is compounding now, arriving every July slightly larger and slightly sooner. One bridge loan sits unused: coal mine methane abatement. Cheap, fast, additional — and barely tapped. That's this issue. #MethaneBrief #ClimateFinance #CutMethane #ClimateAction #Sustainability @jonathonporritt @jrockstrom @SDDecleve @kerrclimate @MethaneSAT @GlobalEnergyMon @Gmethanehub @GlobalMethane

VAM Technology that matters - The climate challenge isn’t always about new technology. Sometimes it’s about deploying what already works. Methane abatement is proven, scalable, and delivers immediate impact. The next breakthrough isn’t the burner—it’s building the financial model that gets it deployed at scale. #ClimateAction #Methane #EnergyTransition #ClimateTech #Sustainability #MitigateVAM @GlobalEnergyMon @GlobalMethane @Gmethanehub @CarlPope @marcelomena

After dozens of conversations with sustainability leaders, one thing is clear: the biggest barrier to climate action is no longer technology. It's leadership. CEOs, mayors, investors, scientists and policymakers keep returning to the same themes: Climate action is now a business resilience strategy, not just an environmental one Cities are outpacing national governments as innovation labs Green finance has gone from niche to essential Methane cuts remain the fastest, cheapest way to slow warming — and still overlooked AI can accelerate progress, but only with good governance Cross-sector collaboration beats going it alone The takeaway: solutions aren't the bottleneck. The courage to scale them is. I've captured these insights in my Fireside Chats and Transformers – The Sustainability Changemakers podcast, as well as essays on KajEmbren.org. What topic deserves more attention over the next 12 months? #Leadership #ClimateAction #Sustainability #GreenFinance #Innovation #Cities #AI #KajEmbren @James_Hanusa @MartinaOtto @kerrclimate @jonathonporritt @MarkWatts_ @oRckBrosFund @YaleClimateComm @SDDecleve @AndersWijkman @ClimateKIC @ICLEI_Europe @ICLEI @ICLEI_USA @imperialcollege @C40Cities @seankidney @ClifftonMandola @ZNConsulting @LDN_pressoffice @EUgreenweek @gpmayors @NYCMayor @LSECities @gregorywendt @ClimateBen @andersegelrud

Last week I was at the Pakistan High Commission in London for the roadshow launching the International Silk Route Festival, opening in Islamabad this October. The room kept returning to one idea: the Silk Road was never really about silk. It was about trust. That struck close to my own work. The old route runs straight through the heart of the world's coal methane — the invisible cargo the map never showed, still vented by the megatonne today. Where mines are built for it, we can now capture that methane rather than lose it to the sky. What's usually missing isn't the technology. It's the trusted networks to verify, finance, and move that value across borders where no single power sets the rules. That is the modern version of the Silk Road's first export. And for Pakistan, the honest first step isn't a capture project at all — it's a just transition: safety, ventilation, monitoring, the human story in mines that were never built to vent. My piece on what the Silk Road can still teach us about trade, climate, and trust — link bit.ly/44EJlJ6 #SilkRoad #Trade #Sustainability #Methane #Values #Tourism #Travel #Climate #LeadershipMatters @ContChange @MaliknazK @silkroadproject @smikarachi @RichardMattus1

BAM! Colombia has announced a historic ban on all new oil and large-scale mining projects in its part of the Amazon Rainforest, protecting an area roughly the size of Sweden. 🌿 Experts say the move could help protect one of the planet’s most important ecosystems—often called the “lungs of the Earth.” 🌎🌳 Nature is amazing. Protect it. #ActOnClimate #nature

London proves clean air policies work. NOx from traffic has fallen 73% since 2016 via National Centre for Atmospheric Science. But the next battle is clear: heating systems & construction emissions now matter more. Cities need to electrify transport and buildings, regulate construction machinery, and keep measuring emissions to drive smarter action. #CleanAir #ClimateAction #Cities #London #Air @MayorofGM @MumsForLungs @UK_CleanAir @NHSEnglandLDN @LG_NHS @DHSCgovuk @c40cities @ClimateGroup @ICLEI_Europe @Eurelectric
