After studying over 500 years of history, I’ve found there are really only three things you need to do to build a healthy society. First, educate your young people well—not just to be capable, but to be civil. If you have capable, civil people in a productive society, that’s a big part of the battle. Second, the finances must be sound: earn more than you spend and have more assets than liabilities. And third, don't get into a war—internally or externally. If you can do those three things, you can have a prosperous, self-reinforcing society.

@BenJustJamin13 @ItsDeanBlundell The real gotchas: - US spends ~50% more per capita on healthcare, yet live 4-5 yrs less than Canadians on average - US ranks near the bottom of OECD countries in infant mortality - over two thirds of personal bankruptcy involves medial debt in US

@ItsDeanBlundell Wait you’re flexing killing people instead of offering mental health services? You’re a vile human being lol What a weird flex. Yeah yeah. Use kids dying by gun violence as a “ gotcha “.

𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗸. 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲. 𝗝𝗣 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘆. All blocked or capped withdrawals from their private credit funds in Q1 2026. This is not a rumour. It's in the filings. In 2007, the same thing happened with mortgage funds. We know how that ended.

@ColinDMello As the spouse of a teacher and parent to two young kids, it’s infuriating to see how the reality in the classroom has eroded in recent years. There is a glaring lack of supports and increasing burden of chronic underfunding and overcrowding being placed on the teachers.

@hearditfromme5 @TinaYazdani See intentional PISA rankings. Canada consistently is top 5 over the long term for academic quality in the WORLD. We also have the highest rate of higher educational globally. Education is directly correlated with health, happiness and standard of living.

@TinaYazdani What’s good about our education in Ontario exactly? What awards do we win because our education system is so great? Any journalism involved in this?

New: the president of the elementary teachers’ union speaks out about the provincial takeover of an unprecedented 8 school boards: “this government doesn’t care about parent voices… they are intent on dismantling everything that’s good about education in this province.”

@tristan_sudbury @mfullilove 😂😂😂 population growth is a central requirement of our economic model. This year it’s expected to be zero… Meanwhile, foreign investment is beginning to pour into the country and the Canadian dollar is outperforming the G10.

“A rock star: that’s how the Lowy Institute’s executive director Michael Fullilove described Canadian PM Mark Carney when the pair sat down for a chat on global affairs on Wednesday evening.” I enjoy the PM’s back catalogue as much as his latest hits! smh.com.au/politics/feder…

Special education families are furious about a TDSB budget survey that asks parents to rank their top 5 spending priorities, with special education supports listed as an option. Advocates say special education is a human right, not a popularity contest or an optional priority.

@tristan_sudbury @mfullilove Convenient how cons keep pointing to ‘per capita’ stats recently, when all stats sources have asterisks for Canada’s data due to anomalous population + compared to is peers over the same time period. Can’t wait to see their feigned outrage when this stat flips with pop changes

32% of Ontario’s students now go to schools under supervisors with little to no experience in education. Having people without any education expertise running school boards is bad for students, families, and educators. If the Minister was serious about fixing schools, he would make class sizes smaller, stop starving special education, and address the kids mental health crisis. If he did this our schools would be safer places to work and to learn. Schools belong to the families and communities they serve — not an office Queen’s Park. #onpoli #onted

Canadians should be re-reminded that the CBSA has been probing dozens of suspected Iranian regime officials who may have gained entry to Canada. Only one is known to have been removed. Particularly after yesterday's U.S and Israeli strikes in Iran, this potentially could be putting the safety of many members in the Iranian and Jewish communities at risk. Canadians deserve a clear update from the Prime Minister, and the Ministers for Public Safety and Immigration as to how many are still in the country, what’s being done, and why enforcement has been so weak. ctvnews.ca/politics/artic…

Ontario doesn’t need charter schools, we had one of the best eduction systems in the world before @fordnation’s crew got ahold of it. @PaulCalandra should be making sure all our schools in Ontario are safe places to learn and work.

Michaela Community School was an incredible experience to witness first hand. The demonstration between the relationship of the students and teachers showed an incredible level of respect, responsibility and discipline. Thank you to the headteacher, Katharine Birbalsingh for having us.

BREAKING: Donald Trump just announced that the US doesn’t need USMCA, also known as CUSMA. Carney took too long to negotiate. Now Trump doesn’t care for it. Canada, you bet on the wrong horse! Carney was never the right man for the job. Now we pay the price.

@TinaYazdani Shame on this government! Our kids deserve better. They have time and time again shown that educational experience, academia and the collective wisdom of those dedicating their lives to educating students does not matter. Education is merely a line item to Ford.

The Ford government’s appointed school supervisor has abruptly fired the TDSB director of education, calling it a “fresh start.” Parents say a real fresh start would be proper school funding, as critics question how someone with no education background can fire a veteran educator

Worth retweeting. It's funny how there is always a "crisis" in public education when the Conservatives are in charge. Reminder: they took over in 2018. #onted #onpoli
