I am THAT mom. You deny my 6-year-old the bathroom and they end up humiliated in class? I’m walking into that school the same day. And if I’m paying thousands for private school? Even worse. “Should’ve gone during break” doesn’t work on a child. Kids aren’t on a schedule like that. Let them use the bathroom. 😡💔

@VoicesUnheard I’ve said this before: while I certainly have compassion for these kinds of situations, as a former high school teacher, too many will ask to get out of class to go get into trouble of some sort and then I am held accountable for that. It’s tough for a teacher.

@HelpfulTeacher_ Yet another educator possessing zero real world experience. Teaching kids to work in pin-drop silence…in what workplace does that exist? They need to learn to work through distraction (at a controlled level of course). The authoritarian edge to teaching in fashion is horrifying.

The classroom default should be pin-drop silence 🔕 There is time for collaboration, think-pair-shares, discussion and debate When the teacher decides so But the default is silence. That's the only way education can work, and it's how students should enter the room 🚪 #Edchat

Homeschool Detractors: "You aren't the same as a teacher!" Me: You're right. Homeschoolers don't have to deal with classroom management, out of touch admin, pressure to grade for equity, uninvolved, or over involved, parents... Which makes teaching much simpler.
