A beautiful prayer by the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard. It is my own translation so I apologize for not doing it proper justice. «God, you loved us first, but we speak of you as if you only did so once in the past. But it is not like that. It is day by day, throughout our entire life, that you have loved us first. When we wake up in the morning and turn our souls to you, there you are waiting – you loved us first. If I get up before dawn and right away start praying to you, you are there before I am – you loved us first. When I put behind everything that worries, and retreats within my soul to think of you, then you are still the first one there. Forgive us, God. We are so unthankful. It was not only one time that you loved us first, you do so in every moment of life.»

@Problem_01011 @JayDyer @EcciusMaximus @AL_J82 So if I said: "You sound retarded" you would not get the impression I found you to be speaking in a retarded way? Come on, brother. Btw I am not your enemy. Let's put aside the animosity and speak about ideas, like you said. That's much better.

What is oddness but the extraordinary and unexpected. The world is odd, we have just become used to it. An ear is extremely odd once you really look at it. The laying and hatching of eggs is very odd, the giraffe is odd, the ring of Saturn is odd, dreams are odd, thoughts are odd, to communicate them through letters and sounds is odd, quantum mechanics and special relativity are odd – existence itself is odd. When God becomes man, expect oddness 😁

Things that never saved anyone: - Church attendance - Baptism by itself - Being raised in a Christian home - Good morals - Giving money - Religious traditions Only Christ saves.

I think it is interesting. I think it is an invitation to reflection. What happens right after his baptism is that the Holy Spirit descends, and I am reminded of when God created the world in Genesis. Genesis 1:2: «The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.» Now Christ goes into the water and the Spirit of God comes hovering above it once again, signalling to us a coming recreation or rebirth of the world.

I have no clue. Even John the Baptist reacted reacted with disbelief at this, trying to prevent it, but Jesus wanted it done. Matthew 3:13-15: «Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying: 'I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?' But Jesus answered and said to him: 'Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.' Then he allowed Him.»

Eating is an interesting thing, biblically speaking. Sin and death entered the world through the eating of the forbidden fruit. When animals where sacrificed in the temple, they were eaten – we sometimes overlook this fact, as if the significance of the animal sacrifice only lied in the shedding of the blood. No, they had to eat it too. When Moses led the Israelites through the desert, God sustained them by giving them manna to eat. Then Christ came and sayd that he is the real manna that came down from heaven to be eaten. Christ also came to be sacrificed as the lamb of God taking away the sins of the whole world, but like the animal sacrifices in the temple he gave his body and blood as food for us, to be eaten. It is the reversal of the eating of the forbidden tree, it removes sin and gives eternal life. Finally, after the atoning work of Christ, we can eat from the tree of life, the cross, where the fruit is none other than the life and resurrection himself, Christ Jesussssss.

The "Eucharist" is a Babylonian act of sorcery and witchcraft that has absolutely nothing to do with the Lord's Last Passover Meal that He had with His 12 Apostles. NOTHING can evidence being an unregenerate more than these sacrementalists unbiblical traditions

You are being disobedient by refusing baptism. Why would you even willingly refuse baptism? Even Jesus got baptised – follow his example. Acts 2:37-38: «Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles: 'Men and brethren, what shall we do?' Then Peter said to them: 'Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'»

@ScottRoberts It is not either/or. The Church is Christ's body, and baptism is the putting on of Christ and the washing away of sins. It is all the work of Christ.

Who is one preacher, pastor, theologian, or Christian author who has helped you love Christ more? I'm always interested in hearing who has shaped people's walk with the Lord.

@ScottRoberts John Chrysostom in general has been a huge influence on me, and Augustine's Confessions. In contemporary times, as a new believer, John Lennox was a great role model for me. I came to the faith through apologetics, so.

How am I coping? Also, I am engaging in conversation... with you... right now. Also can we stop using this silly language lol? Coping, piety signalling, etc 😂 But sure, I think sitting down and have a talk over ideas is very productive. I'm down to have such a talk with you over ideas right now.

I know some Lutherans who have been tempted to convert to Orthodoxy when their Lutheran churches became infected by liberalism. Also one of my favourite church historians, Jaroslav Pelikan, was a Lutheran for most of his life before he converted to Orthodoxy at the end of it. For some Lutherans, the distance between the two churches is not that big. Personally I have been more focused on the difference between Roman Catholicism and Lutheranism, so I have to read up on Orthodoxy before I speak on what the fathers would say. Anyways, I appreciate you, you seem like one of the good orthobros on here 🤝🤣

That's interesting, one of the Deacons at my parish is a former Lutheran. For me at least, Orthodoxy's history predates Lutheranism, many of the Fathers and Saints you referenced would disagree with the theology of Lutheranism. But I digress, it's not my intention to convince you one way or the other.

Alright. For me as a Lutheran, church history is also a comforting field of study, and patristics were influential for the reformers (try reading Martin Chemnitz for example). The Lutheran confessional books constantly cite the fathers in support for its doctrines. When I read the fathers like Augustine, Ambrose, Ignatius, Polycarp, Justin Martyr, Athanasius, Chrysostom, etc, the truth is I also find a Christendom I feel very much at home in. My point is only that church history itself cannot be so easily claimed exclusively by the Orthodox Church.

@KennethVes50962 Learning that illiteracy rates didn't surpass 50% globally until the 1950s told me much of what was learned had to be done through oral teaching was one thing. Apostolic succession, and that the core values, practices, and traditions have remained unchanged for centuries.

Sure, I don't think you need to have an actual degree to debate people. I am not very familiar with Dyer (I learned about him through Tucker Carlson) but I am assuming he is well-read on the topics he debates. That's what I mean. I hope to see some decent Lutherans (especially Jordan B. Cooper) debate him because I find the Lutheran-Orthodoxy dialogue especially interesting. One of my favourite church historians is Jaroalav Pelikan, who was a Lutheran for most of his life until he converted to Orthodoxy at the end of his life. Martin Luther himself respected the Eastern Church. One of my points, tho, is that I think if Dyer chose a more unconfrontational approach, we'd see more of these debates. He apparently comes across to many as insincere and kinda rude.

Ah I see. Yes I agree that even if you are ‘correct’ in a debate, being able to convincingly convey your argument and destroy the oppositions is another task entirely, even if you’re correct. But @JayDyer is no scholar 😂 He’s a comedian and author, who was once Protestant just like many of us. He’s not KNOWN for academic scholarly work of Christianity 😂😂😂 He just took the time out to do his homework. So why order Jay to debate ‘scholars’ or like reputable people in order for him to receive credit, when yall can get just as well read as him? Whats yalls excuse? The same ‘regular people’ you discredit him for beating up on can go plug their heads in a book too, just like he did. Its like ‘Jay Dyer needs to debate the scholars!’ but HES NO SCHOLAR. 😂😂😂 And even then, WHAT PROTESTANT LUTHERAN SCHOLARS wanna debate him??
