@dasblinkenlght @cremieuxrecueil Historically "Germany" was more likely to be invaded than doing the invading. The 30 years war devastated the region and mentally scarred them for centuries.

@cremieuxrecueil Do you have any doubt that whoever came up with this 💩 meme has German background? For centuries, the formula for Germany has been Problem ➡️ War ➡️ Solution until in the 20-th century they lost 2:0 at their national passtime.

@PaleoWenus @cremieuxrecueil At some point you guys have to get over your inferiority complex, it's seriously not healthy and frankly you don't need it; Poland is now a prosperous country.

German-Polish relations are burdened by a lack of trust. It’s worth starting to address this problem. No, not everyone will like it, but political leaders are meant to lead… it’s worth remembering that. My take on the issue: "The Polish-German relationship sits at the center of Europe’s security - and at the edge of its fault lines. German rearmament is indispensable, but rearmament without political anchoring may eventually collide with the unfinished business of World War II. The choice before Berlin is stark: let its growing power rest on legal arguments and fragile trust or convert its historical debt into concrete investments in Poland’s defense and NATO’s eastern flank. Only the second path turns memory from a liability into a strategic asset." Germany is rebuilding its military and seeking a larger role in European security. But an unfinished World War II reckoning still complicates trust with Poland. ow.ly/JHOO30sUxeu

@JohnD_CZ I agree it was a horrible atrocity, but it basically make Czechia a viable state. Separatist Germans were a third of the country

Czech anticommunism is so stupid, they blame it for everything wrong with their country (which is objectively still pretty fine), but never credit it for stuff like the Sudetenland expulsions or rebuilding Prague
Trad West@trad_west_

The Czech Republic has approved a law that criminalizes the promotion of communist ideology. From January 1, 2026, it has been law that anyone who creates, supports, or disseminates communist movements may face 1 to 5 years in prison.

Not absorb. Restore. These are families who had a home in Palestine and were expelled from them by a political project that built Israel on top of their dispossession. “But I already got rid of you” is not really a valid reason to avoid responsibility
Eylon Levy@EylonALevy

That’s just not true. They offered Israel normalization if it absorbs millions of Arab “refugees” and changes its name to Palestine. That’s the meaning of the “right of return” condition that gullible Western observers assume is just rhetoric.

A very bad day for CDU/CSU-SPD governing coalition in Baden-Württemberg elections. Merz' CDU loses to Greens after year-long polling lead. SPD at disastrous low of 5.5%. Expect pressure to increase on both Merz & SPD vice chancellor Klingbeil from within their own parties.

@Linahuaa Germany is a funny country because it is an industrial powerhouse, the world's third largest economy, and at the same time, several generations have grown up in a country with a constitution written somewhere on the back of an envelope in the US.

It's crazy how little love I have for Germany, despite growing up there, having German citizenship. And despite it treating me quite well, and still being a solid place when I grew up. There's nothing bad I can say, but it's simply not a country.

NO, MIGRANTS DID NOT REBUILD GERMANY!!!🇩🇪 I’m sick and tired of our government’s lie that migrants rebuilt my great homeland after WWII. Our GRANDPARENTS worked tirelessly while MILLIONS of Germans were persecuted, r@ped, kiIIed. The CDU should be ASHAMED.

@yuanyi_z Francophones in Canada, as well as Metis and First Nations were oppressed for centuries. They still are. A free Quebec does make sense, if that's what the Quebec nation wants. If Quebecers want to remain in Canada, good for them, but you can't hate a man for standing for them.

The oddest thing about the left clinging to “No state has the right to exist” is that it is the perfect justification for colonialism, which they supposedly hate (although they only hate it when the “bad guys” do it, to be fair).

Well, tbh if you kick Germany out of Europe 4/5 institutions will have to close because they run out of money. And that’s not an exaggeration but the net contribution of Germany is 3 times that of France 🇫🇷.

@FalkTG If you want to make EU efficient, Germany should be kicked out from this organization. Because of being the main source of the infeffciency.

This is true. It’s a story about 30somethings; it’s not a story about today’s younger students. Yet the financial position of students is worse than the financial position of graduates (and their loan terms are worse too - eg a 40-year repayment term): hepi.ac.uk/reports/a-mini…
oh i give up, Glenn it is@jivetolkein

@aedison Not being mentioned is how pathetic the amount you can borrow at crappy terms is - max outside London is 10k and capped for households earning beyond the unbelievable riches of 25k 10k for a years rent food bills travel study materials ? Hall fees typically that alone.

Incredible stat. How can anyone have ever thought this was a good idea?
Institute for Fiscal Studies@TheIFS

@KateOgdenEcon Many borrowers will see their outstanding loan balance increase year-on-year in cash terms, despite making monthly loan repayments. Someone with an outstanding Plan 2 student loan of £50k would need to earn around £63k this year for their repayments to offset the interest added.
