President Trump is continuing to force Northwest Colorado to keep the aging Craig power plant open–overriding private business decisions and driving up electricity costs for Coloradans. The Santa Fe area will be a great addition to Colorado. It is no secret that Colorado and New Mexico are two of the best places to live, work, and play, and we would be thrilled to welcome our friends in Northern New Mexico to our great state and to protect them from aggression from Texas. Let’s be serious, there’s no way that Texas could handle actually annexing this land. We can protect the rich culture, including the arts and restaurant scenes in these communities, while also mutually strengthening our economies and avoiding spreading Texas’s failed leadership any further. Not to mention the fact that this will mean more Pueblo chiles for all. This isn’t like Trump trying to take over Greenland; it’s totally different and definitely legal. I look forward to building on Colorado's past 150 years by growing our state in this next chapter. The partition of New Mexico will go down in history as a big win for Colorado.

I’m disappointed by many parts of the President’s speech, including his determination to keep taxes on hard-working Coloradans and all Americans, rather than issuing refunds. Tariffs are a tax – plain and simple – and families, farmers, and small businesses pay the price in higher costs at the grocery store, on construction materials, and everyday goods. You don’t lower costs by raising taxes on the American people.

I just exercised my right as a Member of Congress to conduct an unannounced oversight visit of the ICE field facility in Baltimore. The staff I met with respected my right to visit, but what I saw was disgraceful. Kristi Noem has a budget of $75 billion she could use to ensure humane conditions, but we saw 60 men packed into a room shoulder-to-shoulder, 24-hours-a-day, with a single toilet in the room and no shower facilities. They sleep like sardines with aluminum foil blankets. Whether it’s for three days or seven days, nobody would want a member of their family warehoused there. The room set aside for dangerous criminals and violent offenders was empty. We’re demanding immediate answers and action.

The resilience of Coloradans in the wake of the Marshall Fire and other devastating wildfires this year is inspiring.
