Major League Baseball is aired in the morning for Japan. So technically they eat breakfast with it being on television. Here’s their #openingday commercial. No hyperbole, when I say this, it might be greater than any US MLB commercial I’ve seen. Well done and worth the watch for any baseball fan.

@BrandonTierney Tucker being an average defender doesn’t make him a better overall player. He’s not in the same category as Soto offensively.

@Jt202102 @BMiggy Yeah except that he’s 6’0, taller than Ty France, Christian Walker and Carlos Satana— guys who have all won Gold Gloves in the past 2 years.

@threulsen2961 @BMiggy Yeah but those same fans will want Stearns’ head if Pete declines and the team results suffer because of it. At the end of the day it’s the GM/POBO’s job to field the team he thinks has the best chance of winning, because it’s his livelihood on the line. Fans are fickle.

@BMiggy @KirkC_ It all comes down to money. I would rather go the extra year for a homegrown star (it means a lot to fans) who has set your all time home run record and has the most home runs in MLB since like 2019. But what’s done is done.

@BMiggy In 4 years when Soto opts out and chases money, keep the same energy. Most pro athletes bag chase

Hear a lot of people saying Polanco won't make a good first baseman because he's too short. He's 6'0. Ty France, Carlos Santana and Christian Walker have all won GG's at 1B in the last two years and all are under 6'0. Walker won 3 consecutive. People just want to hate on the Mets

@pladinosaur Won't be difficult to be better than Pete was at 1B. Offensively Stearns has stressed adding tough at-bats into the lineup. Polanco doesn't K alot and hit .337 with RISP. Also considered a leader which was another point of emphasis.

Gotta say, as much as this offseason has turned around, I still can’t wrap my head around signing Jorge Polanco. Nothing, and I mean nothing about that makes sense to me.

The Mets (through good and bad) have also been a pleasure to watch because of SNY and their broadcast team. I’m genuinely bummed out that we are losing one of the biggest parts of the broadcast. Wish there was something @StevenACohen2 could do to fix this.

@KickinitwitKeef I think you’re right. Stearns has proven he is great at reading markets and being opportunistic. If there’s a deal that makes them better, he’ll do it. Cohen has proven he doesn’t care about money.

@EvanRobertsWFAN If Peralta had gone to the Dodgers or Yankees for similar prospects you'd be fuming that we didn't get him. Jett is blocked and the system is flush with arms. You're becoming one of those Mets fans who would rather complain than be happy.

@BMiggy Been saying this to friends who are Mets fans also. They complain about "homegrown" players being pushed out but Pete never gave us a hometown discount. Didn't take extension prior to FA, waited before accepting opt-out deal, opted out. No loyalty.

All the Alonso Stan’s crying like Alonso didn’t reject a long term offer, bitch about Mets last year even though they were the only team willing to offer a contract, and he opted out of his three year deal that already made him Highest paid 1B in the sport. Loyalty only one way?
Mike@NYMike139

@TheGontheC @AnswerIsLibrty @BMiggy How about loyalty from a player? Pete was offered a very generous extension and turned it down. He’s a one skill player with a skill that doesn’t age well. It makes sense. I would’ve him the 5, but wouldn’t have been happy about it.

Mets expect to receive an answer relatively soon on Kyle Tucker. Team brass at the moment doesn’t have a read on which way he might be leaning.

@WexlerRules @Mets Given the rumors he wants more years it’s hard to see the Mets being the team willing to go beyond what the Yankees were. I’d be pretty disappointed if they went 6+ years for him instead of just going all-in on Tucker.

Difficult to not guess @mets would be his landing spot if not NYY. I’m on record not loving him on long years but we’ll see what happens #Mets

.@Buster_ESPN reports that contract talks between Cody Bellinger and the Yankees are "at an impasse" "The Yankees were hoping to re-sign the veteran outfielder, who played well for them last season, but are now operating under the assumption that Bellinger is going to sign elsewhere. The team is now seeking additions elsewhere, sources added. The Yankees have offered Bellinger a five-year deal for at least $30 million per season, sources said, which falls in the range of deals that other star hitters received this winter. Pete Alonso signed a five-year, $155 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles, and Kyle Schwarber signed a five-year, $150 million to return to the Philadelphia Phillies. Bellinger's camp -- he is represented by Scott Boras -- is seeking a deal longer than five years, and worth more in average annual value than the $30 million per season he's been offered."
