The unique thing about Trinamool Congress’s electoral malpractices is blocking the passage of the voter to the booth (they learnt it from the CPM). CRPF jawans guard the booth, while the CISF, ITBP and BSF guard EVM units, but the route from my house to my booth is strewn with goons of the ruling party. If my voting preference is too obvious, they wouldn’t allow me to even step out of my doorstep.
This is the greatest challenge for the main challenger among the opposition to come to power in the state. Mamata Banerjee could do it in 2011 because the CPM’s power of area domination had depleted considerably due to infighting, while its goons had moved lock, stock and barrel to the Trinamool Congress. How the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (@PIBHomeAffairs) can monitor the neighbourhoods, roads, lanes and alleys, and protect the voters between their homes and booths, would determine the BJP’s chances. The district magistrate, in his/her capacity as the district electoral officer, had the authority to decide the movement and deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) until recently. Starting with the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has withdrawn this authority from the district administration to prevent misuse by ruling parties and ensure ‘optimal deployment’. What does that mean? How will the forces ensure that people on the way to their respective booths are not threatened and/or told that their votes have been cast already?

The massive turnout at PM Shri @narendramodi Ji's rally in Kolkata is a clear signal that people of Bengal want change. Bengal has decided to dethrone Mamata Didi and elect the BJP govt.

Some of you seem uncomfortable with the flattery that happened at the tech dinner last night, as though that isn’t just like every business dinner, every standard interaction that happens when there’s extreme power differences between people.
Go to any middle market company and watch how the managers treat the CEO. Go to most interviews. Most offsites. The flattery experienced by a person leading a regional sales team of 30 looks no different.
We’ve replaced royal courts with corporate and state power, but humans remain exactly the same.

Ravi Kumar, an engineer from DU and MBA from IIM Kozhikode, appeared for the 2016 ISRO Administrative Officer exam, which he topped.
ISRO then allegedly applied a normalization rule after the results, lowering his score so he lost the top spot.
Ravi challenged this before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), arguing no such normalisation rule was disclosed earlier and was illegal. Even the Union of India admitted no such rule existed in the recruitment notice.
CAT first adjourned the case (meaning it would be heard later). Ravi claimed this original “adjourn” order was destroyed and replaced with an order dismissing his plea. He then challenged it in Delhi High Court, which also dismissed it.
Ravi openly accused Tribunal members and judges of corruption and forging orders to protect ISRO. CAT found this scandalous and gave him a suspended three-month contempt sentence.
Hurt, Ravi enrolled in law college, became an advocate, and filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking FIRs against six sitting/former judges for alleged forgery.
Yesterday, he appeared in the Supreme Court. The Court called his plea “scandalous” and even made sarcastic remarks, but still appointed former CJ Dr. S Muralidhar as amicus curiae to advise whether FIRs can be filed against judges for allegedly forging orders. If even prima facie evidence emerges, the SC could order a limited probe or internal inquiry.
Hope Ravi wins this one! It is not love nor wisdom, but the sting of pride that drives man beyond his limits. Absolute cinema.

Today, I heard a very disturbing story about how India's national security is at risk. It came from a friend who recently visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
After landing, he checked into a hotel and was speaking with a man at the reception desk. The man, who worked there, asked my friend where he was from. My friend replied that he was from India.
While talking, my friend was trying to figure out the man's accent and asked if he was from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The man laughed and said, "Haha, good catch. Actually, my i am from Peshawar, Pakistan."
Then he said something shocking: "But I have an Indian passport."
Yes, you read that right - and my friend was shocked too. The man went on to explain that since the Malaysian govt/other countries don't offer visa on arrival for Pakistanis and because it's cheaper to get an Indian passport than to bribe Pakistani officials for a visa, he took the Indian route.
At this point, my friend was both scared and shocked. He asked the man, “How did you get an Indian passport if you're a Pakistani?”
The man smiled and replied, “I went to Hyderabad, India, and stayed there for 1 month. I paid 3 lakhs to agents who arranged a job for me abroad along with an Indian passport. Within 1 month, the passport was delivered.”
Just imagine the level of corruption involved. When I applied for my passport recently, it took me 2 months. But here, a Pakistani with a fake address, fake name, and fake documents gets an Indian passport in just 1 month?
This is a serious national security issue. I have no idea what our intelligence agencies are doing, but this is happening right under their nose. The person sitting next to you might not even be Indian but a Pakistani or Bangladeshi.
