@BrandonFugal Depeche Mode is in my top 5 bands of all time. Definitely the sound of my youth. Saw them live in '93. Absolutely amazing!

My favorite album of all time, Depeche Mode's Black Celebration, was released 40 years ago today - March 17, 1986. Considered one of the finest synth-pop / industrial / darkwave albums ever made, it marked the moment Depeche Mode embraced a darker, more sophisticated, gothic-leaning sound. Many describe it as their creative coming-of-age: richer textures, industrial percussion, brooding atmospheres, and a cohesive mood that feels cinematic & immersive. Unlike albums built around a few big singles, Black Celebration presents a front-to-back experience with almost no filler. Tracks like the title song, "A Question of Lust," "Stripped” (my favorite of all time), “Fly on the Windscreen," & “But Not Tonight" create a unified dark, sexy, desperate world exploring lust, alienation, corruption, mortality, & the search for real connection. It is danceable darkness that still feels cutting-edge 40 years later. I love that it directly inspired major acts (Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails cited it as a key influence on Pretty Hate Machine) & launched the band's legendary four-album run (Black Celebration → Music for the Masses → Violator → Songs of Faith and Devotion), which many regard as one of the strongest creative streaks in modern music. For many longtime fans like me, it's the most indispensable Depeche Mode album, even over the more commercially massive Violator. The increased presence of Martin Gore's vulnerable lead vocals, Dave Gahan's most expressive singing to that point, and the bleak-yet-hopeful romanticism hit deeply. Some call it the moment the band became "serious artists" rather than just hit-makers. On my wall is the original vinyl from 1986, signed by all members of the band. A true keepsake.

@elonmusk @testerlabor VIC-20 was amazing. I too developed a love for coding on it. Was even doing assembly language programming on it when I was 14

@holodeckfour I'm hoping it's a continuation and Wash will be in flashback scenes where they use de-aging vfx.

@jondelarroz Unless he's only going to be featured in flashbacks, where they digitally de-age the actors in vfx.

With Alan Tudyk confirmed in the new Firefly reunion, we know it's not going to be a new show or movie set now. Because Wash is dead in Serenity. So it's going to be an animated film or some other cast reunion.

@nostalgiaa Too cool. Thanks for posting this. I was the compositor for this spot and several others in a series with these actors. We also did commercials with Ed, Edd and Eddy and Courage the Cowardly Dog.

@Blackmoor_Film My group played Paranoia for a few sessions back in the early 90's. Was lots of fun from what I remember. Tried to introduce it to a group I was DMing for a few years ago but no one seemed interested.

The Fellowship of the Thing - Official Blackmoor
Computer is your Friend A sci fi RPG where players are given secret orders which can be deadly if followed. The game is PVP with intra party conflict which is lethal and humorous. But, you get 6 clones - a six pack! The game is very silly and fun. But, I never got to play it! My gamer group played it the one time I missed a game session. Someone needs to run this at Arnecon.

@BrandonFugal I truly feel blessed to have grown up in the early 80's! Having been able to experience all of the great music as it was happening. Wouldn't trade it for the world. 🎶😁

@cbenderatl I ended up spending the night there during the 2014 Snowmageddon storm. My truck, along with dozens of other cars got stuck on 75 right past the river. They opened the mall as a shelter.

@holodeckfour Don't know if this will work, I've never tried it but tomato plants have a particular smell, at least when they're bigger. Not sure if the sprouts have that same smell. Would be Interested to see if they do. 🤷

@RMBee I've been a vfx compositor for 30+ years and completely understand why it cost that much. It's basically reproducing the entire 7 seasons minus the filming. I wish I could've worked on it. It turned out beautifully and I own the box set. Great work!

@bigjoe93 It was amazing to work there during that time. Worked at Turner Studios and composited a lot of the commercials and interstitials for CN and Adult Swim during those years. 😁

@MuseumCommodore I worked my first job ever as a bag boy in a supermarket to buy my VIC-20. Several years later my friend upgraded his C64 to an Amiga and sold the C64 to me for $50.

In the 1980s, I was one of the lucky ones—our family managed to get a second-hand Commodore 64, and that machine felt like pure magic to me. It came with the legendary SID synth chip, the VIC-II chip with its 16 colours, and 64KB of RAM. And the games! They just kept getting better and better as time went on. Most of my friends had ZX Spectrums, Apples, or IBM PC compatibles. Were you in the same boat? Did you ever wonder what your IBM friends experienced while playing games? Now you can compare with "We Are Demo" by Fairlight, Noice, and Offence—it perfectly sums it up!
