@thewrittenro Strong empathy here. I think that is the human condition. But also there are so many wonderful colleagues who make up for it. I try to focus on that positive side, as well the joy of discovery and mentoring trainees - then it is easier to survive those disappointments

The reason I find academia so hard, is I am wired for a kind of love that this place cannot sustain. I think of ways to cite colleagues, to lift them up, to support them. All the time. It is not reciprocal with so many others. I find it painful. I'm not sure how long I can last.
