Sickening racism from one of Reform’s Sunderland councillors and they can’t even get their act together to throw him out.
Kevin Schofield@KevinASchofield
Update: Glenn Gibbins has NOT been suspended, despite claims by Reform councillor Darren Grimes. Party spokesman: "The investigation is still ongoing. No decision has been made yet."

When I say every child should have the opportunity to go as far as their talent takes them, I mean every single child.
Children who grew up in poverty, with special educational needs, those who can't get a job.
We back them: every young person struggling to find work will get a guaranteed offer of a job, training, or a work placement.

I’m delighted to appoint @HarrietHarman as my Adviser on Women and Girls.
Harriet is a strong advocate for women and girls and I know she will deliver greater opportunity for women in public life.
I’m committed to tackling structural misogyny that is a barrier for too many women and girls. I look forward to working with Harriet to drive forward action on this important issue.

We must respond to the message that voters have sent us and break with the status quo once and for all.
We must confront the big challenges the public face with real answers.
That is how we will deliver the change that people are desperate for and build a stronger and fairer country.

As these tough election results come in, we thank and pay tribute to our councillors who have served their communities brilliantly for many years.
The last thing the British people need now is Labour turning inward and losing focus on them.
Keir Starmer won a huge mandate less than two years ago. Now we must get on with delivering change faster for the British people.

The PM @Keir_Starmer has been clear. These were really tough results for Labour and more needs to change. He’s taken responsibility for that. He’s not once ducked such responsibilities.
But we won’t deliver for our communities or serve the national interest by turning in on ourselves.
We must dust ourselves off, come together and get back to delivering for the people who elected us with a landslide just two years ago.
The PM is right not to walk away or talking timetables. At a moment like this, the country needs focus, stability and delivery, not chaos.

We won’t deliver for communities by turning in on ourselves.
After campaigning week in week out for the local elections, I know how much more work there is to do and that should be the continued focus for this Government: safer streets, decent homes, brighter futures.
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer
These are tough results for Labour. There’s no sugarcoating it. We’ve lost brilliant Labour representatives who’ve stood up for their communities. People are still frustrated. Their lives aren’t changing fast enough. We haven’t offered enough hope or optimism for the future. I was elected to change this country - tough days like this don’t weaken my determination to do that. They strengthen it.

The election results today have clearly been tough for Labour.
I’m sorry that we’ve lost so many brilliant Labour colleagues across the country, and thank them for their service.
And I’m sorry that so many voters felt unable to vote Labour at these elections.
@Keir_Starmer has taken responsibility and committed all of us to delivering on the mandate the country gave us at the last election.
The Labour Party shouldn’t waste a minute of the time we’ve been given to get on with that job. If we turn inwards the public will think we’re walking away from that challenge.
The next election will have unity or division on the ballot. A Britain built for all, or a Britain for the few.
Britain is at its best when we come together and rise to the challenges of our time.
And Labour is at its best when our values of equality, collectivism and unity power our project for the British people.
We can deliver a better Britain in the years ahead and beat the prospect of division at the next election, but only if we come together, get on with the job and face the future.

Reversing these results requires a collective effort, not just blaming the boss.
We can’t do that by turning in on ourselves. We do it by rebuilding faith in Labour’s ability to inspire and lead our country.
Losing our Prime Minister is the very opposite of that.
In the days ahead, we’ll set out the ambition we have for a fairer and more prosperous Britain.
