Flagstaff, Arizona: • March 19, 2026 high: 84°F • Previous March all-time high: 73°F • April all-time high: 80°F That's just plain ridiculous.

Daily record highs were smashed today with readings an incredible 25°F above the daily normals. Not only were these daily record highs for March 19th, but also the warmest temperatures recorded in March for the period of record for these 3 major climate sites. #azwx #cawx

Well, if yesterday's map was ridiculous, I'm running out of superlatives to characterize today's. Countless locations from Pacific Coast to Great Plains are currently experiencing all-time record March warmth, w/ some locations approaching/exceeding April (or even May) records.

3/18/26 10:25am: Our #snow water equivalent is now in the bottom 10% for this time of year. The warm temps have resulted in substantial melt over the last couple of weeks that has accelerated with the record-breaking temps we've had in the past two days. #weather #CAwater

Well, folks, right now we sit back and watch over the next few days and find out how resilient our record-low snowpack is to record-shattering March heat. It's kinda like watching how your tank made of balsa wood holds up against a bazooka.

BAD NEWS! Usually, we don't see our statewide snowpack peak until around March 24. However, with an upcoming ridge and accompanying heatwave, I think we've already peaked. If that turns out to be the case, this season's peak statewide mean snowpack will be the lowest on record.

Sure is great US automakers spent the last 25 years convincing Americans they need tank-sized pickup trucks that get 21 miles per gallon to get a gallon of milk, or for idling for an hour in the drop-off line at school. Oh, oil is $108 a barrel now? Thanks, GM. Thanks, Ford.

"The president should be impeached and convicted, as should everyone responsible for these outrages. ICE should be disbanded. So should the Department of Homeland Security. The other agencies within it should be redistributed across other departments. And the people who have killed should be investigated and brought before judges and juries."
Timothy Snyder@TimothyDSnyder

We have to see the logic of the killings as well as the killings themselves. The horror is a truth in itself. But it is also a sign of a political logic, one known from the totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century. snyder.substack.com/p/lies-and-law…

More than 200,000 Danish citizens have signed a petition to buy California as a response to Trump’s attempt to take Greenland. They say they will provide Californians with “rule of law, universal health care, fact-based politics, and a lifetime supply of Danish pastries.”
