Pleasantly surprised by a solitary #lapwing flying around me and landing quite close, at Home Park Pond (Kingston, Surrey) on Saturday. It stayed awhile, very settled. My first ever: what a delightful, special bird! @Natures_Voice @RSPBEngland @LapwingSurvey

Proof that with long-term effort and funding, and a lot of hard work, that conservation can work! Our #Rockabill team have reported a **RECORD-BREAKING** 1,704 pairs of Roseate Terns on Rockabill Island this summer, 85% of the NW European population! birdwatchireland.ie/another-record…

@MidShannon Certainly 3 fledged youngsters there, if they are the same lads from nest we couldn't say but it's certainly highly likely. Great to see it. Excellent footage 🎥🎬

It has been productive year at Rinmore and Magheragallan, Co Donegal with many fledged lapwing recorded. Both sites have predator exclusion fences installed as part of the EU Interreg- funded CABB (Cooperation Across Borders for Biodiversity) project. tinyurl.com/uscsukr5

@LapwingSurvey I counted 54 hoodies, 1 carrion crow, plus several rook and jackdaw In the area yesterday evening. One brave oystercatcher sitting in eggs in the middle of it all!

Mid Shannon Wilderness Park - Awareness Group
Delighted to confirm this evening that a Lapwing in the Derryadd boglands is today a happy mother to at least 2 healthy chicks. We are calling on @BordnaMona to immediately cease the extensive water pumping and to immediately rehabilitate these entire bogs in full into the MSWP

It's been a terrible year for #wader productivity, but that hasn't stopped this lady lapwing and her 2 tiny chicks so far. Still, it hasn't been easy. Her 1st nest was ploughed up + now the silage has been cut and there's zero cover for the chicks to hide. My hopes are not high.

This is why we get so exasperated about gorse fires. This was one of a few relatively small gorse fires recently set by a landowner for scrub clearance. Even so, it didn't take me long to find a charred Long-tailed Tit nest with a little clutch of cooked eggs within.
