@SandyofCthulhu I love Watchmen and The Boys because it's the most likely scenario if any random guy got superpowers.

Westerns and superhero themes have had deconstructions since almost the beginning. Spiderman himself was originally a kind of deconstruction. For westerns, we can go clear back to the 1940s & 50s with Destry Rides Again and The Big Country, both of which deconstructed the concept. Unforgiven and Deadpool were of course also deconstructions for their genre. BUT they were also done with love for that genre, and it showed. They didn't hurt the underlying genre. The difference in The Boys, Watchmen, and V for Vendetta is that these deconstructions don't (to me) feel like they were done in love. They feel like attacks, tearing down the idea of superheroes, and succeeding. Compare Unbreakable to Watchmen. Unbreakable loves superheroes. The villain's evil is because he loves superheroes, but it doesn't change that superheroes are awesome, and he becomes a terrifying and awesome supervillain as a result. But Watchmen's supposed "heroes" are arrogant elitists that no one can sympathize with. The one guy everyone likes (Rorschach) is supposed to be a villain in the eyes of the creator, which shows how far from the superhero reservation he has mentally wandered.

Bob Ross was almost universally hated by fellow artists during his career. The number of snide New York Times articles about him from the early 90's is shocking to me. web.archive.org/web/2020040823…

Mohammed Ali has a pretty good shot at it I’d say. He’s fast and tough. My karate instructor back in the 70s told me that one of the toughest opponents for a martial artist was a skilled boxer, because they could really take a hit and keep on coming, plus a boxer’s own punches were devastating.

@Rothmus @Objectobot That s a total wrong interpretation of communism but of course it suited for those who exploit others or things for their personal goal or ego. The term comes community that means it's not about the individual for that purpose there s the spiritual realm. So communism is share

@bestofstarwar It was a mixed reaction! The movies had great things: highly anticipated, one of the best bad guys in movie history, top of the shelf cast, VFX never seen before, and (I can't stress this enough) the most incredible original soundtrack ever. But the flaws...

How did Harry potters parents have all that cash for his trust fund? They died at 21 and the only jobs in the wizarding world are civil servant, barmaid, teacher or shop owner. Or is it just like magic? And if so how are the Weasleys poor like how far does magic go? Are they just bad at magic?

@historigins “That time” Security at air shows is universally terrible. There is a 100% chance a drunk man will outrun slow security officers and steal an awaiting running stunt plane. I’ve been going to multiple air shows every year for the last 40 years and this has happened every time.

@historigins Well, that was a common stunt in the 90's. He didn't steal anything, it was all staged but the audience usually didn't know. Once it became common knowledge it was staged, they stopped doing it.

@pdub110 @FastbreakHoops5 That "step-through" used to be interpreted as having lifted the pivot foot before releasing the ball. So, back then, this would have been considered a travel but a fadeaway throw would have been ok. Nowadays? Who cares.

Here's the key rule (straight from NBA official traveling guidelines):Once a player establishes a pivot foot (the foot that stays planted after receiving the ball or ending a dribble), they may lift that pivot foot to shoot or pass. But they cannot put that same pivot foot back down on the floor before releasing the ball. The non-pivot foot can move freely (that's what creates the "step through" around the defender). In the step-through:Player lands/jump-stops and establishes one foot as the pivot. They lift the pivot foot off the ground. They "step through" with their body/ non-pivot foot to create space or angle toward the basket. They release the shot (or pass) while the pivot foot is still in the air.

I don't think JK Rowling really understands sports as a concept because what do you mean individual players can bring their own vastly superior equipment that gives them an advantage.
