The fundamental error of modern historiography is that we believe every war is between good and evil. The modern mind cannot comprehend a war that’s not between good and evil; where both opponents are virtuous, nobly pursuing their tragically conflicting ends.

@tightlikeadish Nepotism, maybe. But I didn’t think Pakku gave Katara a spot purely because he was engaged to Gran Gran. The necklace reminded Pakku that his arrogance drove away the love of his life; so he bent (pun not intended) his rules to respect Katara’s heritage AND to temper his pride.

@EmperorKarino @literaturedevil Katara lost the duel. Decisively. And it wasn’t the duel that changed his mind, it was nepotism because Pakku dated (and later married) Katara’s grandma

@Draven_X_23 @thattugglife Yeah, I see the whole “make something new” critique used mostly for all the live action Disney remakes or legacy sequels/reboots. You know, new editions of already successful movie franchises. Video games have a bunch of great stories to adapt, but these studios never even try.

@thattugglife No fan says to not use the games plot for the adaptation. Thats what bad adaptations say after they make fan fiction based on popular IPs. Like Halo, Rings of Power, Witcher, Wheel of Time, etc. We want to see the game turned to Live Action. Otherwise, why make it?

The irony is this: People: “can we stop with the sequels and remakes and live action adaptations that just rehash the same plot? Come up with something new!” Zach Cregger: “here is an original story that is set in the world of this super popular video game series that pays homage to the games”. Those same people: “oh my god why didn’t they just take RE, make it live action, and rehash the same plot???”

@mhedges0 @JackPilgrimKSR Being a UK fan is such a slog right now. The program is sputtering and fans are lashing out at anyone they can. Not gonna make any big statements (good or bad) about JP as a reliable UK reporter, but I’m sure his job is a lot tougher when there’s not much good news to report on.

Jacob Polacheck is one of the best talents to come through this industry in a long time and is an unbiased journalist through and through. Not for a second have I ever questioned his integrity or commitment to bringing anything other than facts to the table -- good, bad or ugly. He's excellent at what he does and the Kentucky beat is better with him on it. Period.
𝚁𝚒𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚎 𝙱𝚞𝚌𝚔𝚎𝚝𝚜@RichieBucketsUK

Jacob Polacheck is a lifelong Kansas fan and graduate, I’m told. It’s honestly impressive for someone to pull off such an elaborate troll. He was committed to the “UK reporter” bit.

@rotobrady @DylanBallard_UK Yeah, I think we end up fine. We will almost certainly be better than last season. But with how much damage was done by the staff & team last season, I don’t know if “fine” would be nearly enough to win BBN back over.

@GWOtaku @tysonphotoo Yeah, my like or dislike of Aang and Korra has nothing to do with how powerful they are. Fights and villains are among LoK’s strongest suits; but when it comes to the avatar’s journey, their arc, and their characterization, I hope it’s not controversial to say that ATLA clears.

@tysonphotoo Not to nitpick too much because I don't think power scaling should be at the forefront of conversation most of the time, but Aang took down Sozin on account of a very fortunate triggering of the Avatar State. He was losing the fight before that point.

“Harder villains? Aang defeated a fully realized Fire Lord empowered by Sozin’s Comet . Aang invented Energybending on the spot to solve a problem no Avatar had ever faced. Korra’s solution to most fights was hit harder. Aang was using creative airbending to outmaneuver enemies twice his size at age 12, finding solutions through precision and wit rather than brute force. Korra also had full access to masters of every element from the beginning and still made every fight a straightforward brawl. Aang had no firebending teacher for most of his journey, was the last of his entire culture, and still mastered everything under impossible pressure. Korra’s trauma was real, but trauma isn’t a power scaling argument. Aang carried genocide-level trauma as a child and still chose precision and creativity over force every single time. That’s not nostalgia, it’s that’s just facts. So hey kora made those fights harder for herself. Reasons why most people don’t like her and some people hate her.
HhushH🤫@ayo32990345

korra faced harder villains, went through more trauma, had a weaker team AND still gets slept on because aang nostalgia is a hell of a drug 😭 let me explain why korra is the stronger avatar and y'all just don't wanna admit it. A thread👇

Halo Infinite as it stands is a great Halo game and had it launched that way we would be having much different conversations about Halo rn It's so frustrating that Xbox released and then left the game in Beta for pretty much 2 years and then have the audacity to act as if the game's failures were due to disinterest in the franchise. No you just released a mediocre product initially and people moved on. By the time the game was even a semblance of a complete product it was too late
Destin@DestinLegarie

Halo Infinite was great imo. But if that still wasn't "enough" to warrant story follow ups and a continuation for Infinite vs. a Halo 1 remake I'm worried about the future of the franchise. I have ~456 hours in Infinite. I love the game. I hope Halo Studios can figure it out.

@DrMemeD302 @LuluLurkHeart These bad faith takes forget Ariel’s initial plan was to properly meet the Prince as a mermaid. @LuluLurkHeart "Little Mermaid is about giving up everything you are just for a man" is something you'd see in a 2014 facebook meme that people would chuckle at and move on. Nowadays it's a deep criticism that people think is profound and groundbreaking and tarnishes the movie's reputation

@_Floura_ Food is always the best analogy I can come up with to illustrate this point. You don’t really have to be a chef to determine whether a meal tastes good or bad. Most people can figure out on their own if something is underbaked, overdone, bland, too spicy, spoiled, etc.

If you're a Christian, you're going to feel the impulse to argue with this, to explain that you are only concerned for their welfare, and so on. Pump the brakes a bit. Remember that you are trying to persuade. And offending is never a good first step in persuasion. If you do not show respect when they haven't joined you, they're not going to assume you would suddenly develop respect for them when they did.

@Pathfinder4545 @smashbaals Obviously there’s a lot of nuance to this conversation, more than can be said in one tweet thread. But a simple truth is that the content creators on OF need to be reached, and the best way to do that is for repentant women to tell their stories.

Seeing this happen more and more: 1. Women become big on OnlyFans 2. Realize how horrible it is 3. Get saved 4. Pivot to becoming a Christian influencer The issue is this is actually encouraged in the modern Evangelical church The “bigger the sin” the more impressive the testimony is Instead of living in genuine repentance many have found they can monetize their past sin while simultaneously being morally superior to others It is a humiliation ritual for young Christian men to be told they should pick the promiscuous girl because “Jesus wants the rose” and trot out their wife’s past sin like a trophy Praise God many are being brought to repentance but to immediately pivot to becoming a Christian influencer and platformed because of their past sin is an issue we need to fix in the church

@LostHistory9 @JakoSloth Agreed. Storytelling was one of Jesus’ favorite methods of preaching & teaching. Stories with familiar types characters, and twists/subversions in the narrative. And Jesus avoided sermonizing or over-explaining the message (except in private when the disciples were REALLY stuck).

High King Fëanor - Alpha Chad of Middle-earth
It is imperative for Christians to embrace and gatekeep fictional stories whose messages aligns with the teachings of the Christian faith. Too often, particularly in non-denominational and Evangelical circles, does the average person shun all kinds of stories because of the bullshit narrative that the stories are "demonic". This type of puritanical nonsense has been a blight on the faith for a long time, and it needs to stop. And yes, I have indeed heard retarded people call the works of Tolkien and Lewis "demonic".

@Waddlegazza @Talking_spurss It was supposed to be simple. Take a coach who’s done more with less, and ask him to do more with more. Frank did less with more, and as much as I think he’s the culmination of Levy’s small club ownership style, I don’t even think Levy would’ve kept him to February.

I want to give absolutely massive credit to Igor Tudor. He’s basically been mocked and laughed at by nearly the entire footballing media in England ever since he arrived. Ange mark 2. Dismissed because pundits ‘don’t know much about him’. As if he didn’t spend years at one of Europe’s biggest clubs. He’s had his intelligence insulted by journos who claimed ‘he must not know anything about English football’. Had rumours spread that all the players are against him and are just playing for themselves. No one can tell me those players haven’t been responding to him in the last few games. We all want instant impacts but that’s often not reality. The last two games have been far better than anything we ever saw under the terrible management of Thomas Frank. I’m going early but I’m now fully confident we stay up with time to spare. COYS

@EruditeTogether As a proud homeschool kid, I used to be anti-public school. Now, though, I think each family should decide based on their own situation. Both parents need to be involved in educating their kids, regardless of whether one parent stays home full time to teach them.

I am a Christian, and I have two daughters. Both my daughters attend public school. When my daughters were old enough to go to school I felt so much pressure from the Christian culture to homeschool them. I went to public school and had a really good experience, but everyone was treating public school like it was the devils playground. I tried to homeschool my oldest in preschool and I realized how terribly unequipped I was to teach. I didn’t have the discipline, nor the mental capacity to teach from home. I think public school is great. The teachers are all so intentional, the school counselors are lovely, and their principal remembers their names and things about them. We are very involved parents. We go on field trips, take them to school events, and go to all their conferences. Honestly, public school gets way too much hate.
