Fuck it, I'm out, find me at the new version of the old version of this site with the same handle, and everyone should follow suit until this place becomes nothing but the fetid sewer of fascism it's clearly destined to become

@vazserox @elibellyjj @hsrgood @GoBrightline If it's true the gate's routinely malfunction it's absolutely a problem of infrastructure, not just poor decision making on drivers' part. Their options are limited in a scenario where gates regularly stay down indefinitely with no train, ESPECIALLY if it's for multiple gates.

You can and should, it just requires a radically different idea of how a city should function, but in creating the infrastructure needed for cycling (and other micro transport) to be load bearing you make the lives of walkers and wheelchair users better too.
wombot 👀@_colourmeamused

My most controversial urbanist opinion is cycling is not a load bearing mode of transport. I’m not opposed to bike infra, build it whatever I respect the good intentions, it’s great for a couple of kms if it’s flat and the weather is nice. But you can’t build society around it.

Let's talk about working 80hrs a week and why I call bs for 99% of the dumbasses who call Americans lazy for not wanting to work 80hrs. I worked in a lot of fields, from a courier to oil field, retail to gov, from contracting floors to gas stations. I've worked 80+hr weeks for months at a time. It sucks. It's hell. You can't think. You're not "productive". You're a damn slave. The last year I drilled, I spent 21 days home. I spent the rest of the time in a "doghouse" on the rig. Now tell me, how is one supposed to have a healthy family relationship with this? Is this the American dream? Slaving for a tech bro to maximize returns? Tell me, is this the American dream? Never being home? Never seeing your family? And you stupid fucks have the audacity to question why people aren't having kids.

But sure, it was Harris winning that would have really hurt the pro Palestine movement, because of liberals doing brunch or something. This is exactly what The left should have expected, beating Trump was a necessary step, now there's fuck all protest and media can accomplish.
Sana Saeed@SanaSaeed

I barely see Gaza on my feeds anymore. Within a week, it’s all but disappeared. The only accounts I see still talking about it are Palestinian journalists in Gaza, some Palestinian journalists here in the US and a few big accounts. And I have to seek it out. While Gaza is being ignored, the extermination is being accelerated.

@metallifre63765 @Izengabe_ @celeste43_ @Redistrict it has to do with partisan makeup. MI needs to split the Detroit vote in order to make sure the partisan representation is roughly even to reflect the politics of the state. Personally, I would just get rid of majority-minority districts and require fair and competitive maps.

Pretty amazing that the House (likely 220R-215D) would have flipped to Dems this year while the White House/Senate flipped to the GOP, had it not been for Rs winning a majority on the NC Supreme Court in 2022, allowing GOP legislators to redraw three Dem seats into oblivion.

@MowmowOwEn @the_ason @ArmandDoma It was usually a small number is restaurants that sold cheap easily transported food and focused on volume with minimal/no seating, stuff that could be easily done in multi stop runs. It was never the variety of restaurants we have now.

This isn’t just big. It’s historic. It will lead to creation of homes for 80k NYers. There’s never been anything like this in the history of NYC or any city in America. Incredibly proud of @nyccouncil and everyone who fought so hard for this.
Dan Garodnick@DanGarodnick

@NYCCouncil just passed thoughtful amendments to #CityofYes for Housing. As modified, it enables 80K units while respecting neighborhood context, keeps every core component of the initial proposal, and ensures we create a little more housing in every neighborhood. Well done!

John Oliver's 2015 monologue about the "trans rights turning point" is a real time capsule. "We know how this thing ends. If you take the anti-civil rights side, and deny people something they're entitled to, history is not going to be kind to you." youtu.be/hmoAX9f6MOc?si…

What to purge them from the party? Give them a party that can win power in proportion to their vote share then work with them to pass legislation that you can both support.

@eskiflo1 @LibArtsNdCrafts @ArtemisConsort @RoseAndGarden @razibkhan I can name an example: welfare. It is not in a market, but it is arguably a industry and the perverse incentives created probably make it negative-sum. Economically illiterate policies such as tariffs and price controls are also negative-sum, but they aren't industries.

@meow_zedong1 @ArtemisConsort @RoseAndGarden @razibkhan Gambling takes the effort of competent people and devotes it to a task of creating no good or service of value, but tricking vulnerable and desperate people into transferring funds to richer people in ways that are addictive and destroy communities. It's clearly negative sum.

Trump is on track for a smaller popular vote victory than Hillary Clinton won in 2016. Democrats have work to do. They need to build a coalition that’s not always 2 points from losing to MAGA. But I don’t see Republicans internalizing that this was a narrow victory in a historically anti-incumbent year. Many presidencies have faltered by misreading an anti-incumbent mood as a sweeping ideological mandate.
Nate Silver@NateSilver538

Updated estimate: Harris 76.2m votes (48.4%) Trump 78.5m votes (49.9%) other 2.6m votes (1.5%) Total turnout 157.3m votes (vs 158.6m in 2020) Trump margin +1.5% Tipping-point state: PA (Trump +2.1%)
