@RageSheen Many more sick days for teachers at my school. And off for longer periods. Spreads quickly in some staffroom. More so with lack of ventilation

I worked in schools, so advice from people who don’t doesn’t interest me. Teachers (not mentioned) also work in schools. I’ve never seen them as sick as they’ve been in the past 2 years. I’ve never seen children as sick. I’ve never seen parents as sick.

@RogersHistory @markhsk Not wrong. Same happened in Australia. Politicians pressure education departments, who then pressure school leaders, which then trickle down to blame the teachers. Student behaviour always seems to be a classroom teacher problem. Ask for help from admin? CRT is the problem.

The 'atmosphere' for teachers is obv going to change under Labour when it comes to student behaviour. I think there will be much more pressure to keep students in classrooms/schools regardless of the behaviour they exhibit. The needs of each individual student will become thee most prominent thing. 'Inclusive practice' will translate into responsibility/accountability for students behaviour being shifted onto teachers/schools even more than it already is. Too many rules? not inclusive. Teachers using sanctions? not inclusive. Students disengaged? Teachers boring. Activism will increase, parent power will expand. What all this means for the ordinary classroom teacher operating in mainstream schools without strong leaders to push back? I worry. theguardian.com/education/arti…

Imagine you just courageously used your body as a human shield to protect an important public figure from danger. When duty called, you answered and were willing to risk it all on behalf of your country. But instead of them honoring your courage and sacrifice, the next day you find that people are circulating your photo all across the internet as the butt of their jokes. They’re mocking your body and criticizing your appearance snd saying you’re unworthy of your uniform because you’re a girl. I’m sorry, but this just really upsets me.

@englishspecial Retention will fail whilst workload is too high. Salaried pay is used in Education to squeeze unpaid hours out of teachers.

Paid for term time only? I know that's what folks think teachers do, but how is this advert helping retention? 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🚩🚩🚩

@oldandrewuk Too much admin for poor behaviours required before escalation of consequences. And more often than not teachers get blamed for poor behaviour of students than the students do.

In your experience, why do teachers fail to follow the behaviour policy? (I've deliberately avoided saying how common I think this is, but feel free to comment on that as well.)

An exercise for men: Imagine that every time you mentioned your career in conversations with people from church, they furrowed their brows, looked at you judgmentally, and asked, “Aren’t you satisfied just being a father? How can you stand to let someone else raise your children?” Wouldn’t that be frustrating?

@FixingEducation Student/Teacher contact hours must be decreased significantly. Teachers as professionals need to refuse to undertake work after school contact hours and outside of professional role. A dentist won't supervise a patient after hours, so why do teachers?

The expectations placed on teachers have evolved significantly over the past 40 years, even the last 15. Yet, the student and teacher schedule has remained unchanged. It's time for education to adapt to the changing landscape.

10,000 women 17,000 children and tens of thousands more amputees, injured Continuing devastation and a very dangerous and worrying escalation across the region This should have been stopped on Jan 26 when the world court, and most of the world, said enough Australia has done nothing, even while tens of thousands of innocent women and children have been killed Anyone who calls themselves a women’s rights advocate should have said something Anyone who purports to be a human rights advocate should have spoken up Anyone who says they’re against discrimination, racism, should have said ‘enough’ long ago As @1james_elder says, if nothing else, do it for the kids For all kids, without distinction They are the innocent victims of our failure Soon, it may be too late @AlboMP @UNICEF

@DrMLivingston @theprojecttv Airborne diseases will get humans every time because we gather without mitigations. We gather in schools, childcare, workplaces, shopping centres, public transport... Public health messaging has all but disappeared as the deniers have taken hold of public discourse.

I am seeing lots more COVID than RSV/Influenza but yet not a single mention by the @theprojecttv Experts are warning of a long, sick winter, with cases of COVID, RSV, Pertussis, Influenza, Mycoplasma Pneumonia, Rhinovirus, Adenovirus, Atypical Pneumonia, Sepsis and Bronchiolitis Covid. Covid. Covid.

Experts are warning of a long, sick winter, with cases of RSV reaching 100,000 and whooping cough cases crossing 10,000. Dr Max Mollenkopf tells us why this cold and flu season is so bad this year.

@tenaciousKat Valid point. However educators and the pedagogy used to describe practices are not a life or death outcome. If it were perhaps funding would be greater, classes smaller and face to face teaching time reduced.

@Lisa25573629 I have a friend in the health profession. When evidence dictates there is a more effective way of doing something it gets mandated. In air travel, when there is a new procedure for safety it is mandated. I guess I’m wondering what’s different about our profession?

A 🧵 on explicit instruction, in light of the NSW announcement. 1: I would have not only told you I was teaching explicitly in my first years of teaching, but been highly offended if you had suggested I wasn’t. Spoiler alert: I was giving one explicit instruction 1/

@aliceleung @AlboMP @JasonClareMP The accounting is easy. If a section of education is overfunded, cut it and redistribute to those that are underfunded. It's time to make public education a public priority. You too @ChrisMinnsMP @pruecar cuts to public schools do no public service.
