@DanielLRAnsell @catalinmpit @DailyMailUK False, I am working from home since early 2020. Have never been in better physical and mental state. And my environment/social bubble observations are opposite of yours 😉

what I hate about finance books is that 90% of them are targeted towards USA chapter 1: pay off student debt *sigh* any books you would recommend for eu?

@thekitze I think having a separate office room that you only enter when working is just fine.

commutes (15-30 mins) are actually great for decompressing and separating work from home. even better if you include gym between work and home. "ending work" by just closing a laptop is a recipe for disaster, the mind cannot switch that fast

@thejettdurham @thekitze The only thing I lost now that I no longer have commute is podcasts. But to be honest, there's plenty of time for other activities that I was not able to find time for because of commute. So, this is very acceptable tradeoff for me 😅

@thekitze As someone who finds the concept of a daily commute intolerable for many reasons (safety and climate impact chiefly), ditching my commute for remote work has been a godsend for my mental health. To each their own tho. Might be different if my city had functioning public transit.

@ObedParla @thekitze I am in the similar boat, have some rituals + am very strict about work/home hours 🙂 I am privileged enough to also have dedicated room for home office, where I can close door and separate myself from the rest of the house, or at the end of the day close door to "hide work" 🙂

@thekitze I think it's very person-dependent I have some little rituals that help me get into "work" mood: - Coffee on Monday (I don't drink daily) - Usually watch 30mins of youtube before work - Play video games at the end of the day I have a chaotic work-life the rest of the time tho

@thekitze Having a dog and going for a walk after closing laptop helps as well and still saves time on commutes 😉 Also, I always hard quit all the apps on laptop (very specific closure) + work and personal are two separate devices, and I never mix them 🙂

@MJacionis @DylanMeeus @amysw_sec I don't think that taking a full month off every year means you are not well rested. My point is that I don't think businesses need to pay for us to take more than that off every year, but feel free to take unpaid days if you need them.

@Corbin630 @DylanMeeus @amysw_sec Wuuuut 😬 What is the benefit for you in this "less vacation" deal? 🤷‍♂️ Not to mention all the studies that show how well rested people are more happy and productive. And all other research showing how US is one of the most overworked and burnedout countries 🤔

@DylanMeeus @amysw_sec I don't think we need more paid time off than that. Why should companies have to pay us to not work for more than a whole month every year? You can take unpaid time off too if you want to vacation more, but anything over a month is insanely excessive.

@Corbin630 @amysw_sec Minimum in Lithuania is 20 business days per year. Plus 14* public holidays 🙂 *If it is on weekend then those who work mon-fri don't really get it. In the past we had like 10 public holidays, but if they are on weekend they were "moved" to Monday 🙂

@amysw_sec I think you have bad information. Typical paid time off is around 2 to 3 weeks per year plus 7 to 8 holidays. I get a little over 3 weeks and after more time with the company it goes up to 4 weeks.

@TrezyCodes @wesbos @kentcdodds +1 on this, I have a triple walls, but when I am lecturing everyone at home participate 😅 I wish I could go back and install acoustic dampening layer inside the wall (the very same spikey foam is used for this), now only option is adding stuff on top or changing walls 😅🤷‍♂️

@wesbos @kentcdodds Even better than double walls is insulating and using acoustic dampeners for mounting the drywall.

We bought a new house and my office space is currently mostly unfinished (open ceiling, concrete floor) so I have a blank slate! What would you add to a dream office? I'm going to do heated floors, run ethernet, double drywall for sound, What else? Speakers? Lots of lights?

@acemarke @thekitze I like redux. It was complex - yes, did understanding how it works expanded my knowledge as a dev - also yes. Did it had issues - sure did, did those problems pushed other solutions to be introduces in the ecosystem - for sure. Did toolkit made redux great again - absolutely 🫳🎤

@thekitze Tbh, it's sad that you feel so bitter about this that you've spent years continuing to bash a tool rather than doing something more productive with your time. That seems unhealthy. I hope for your sake that you can find a way to move on and feel better.

Happy accident: Had my ultra-wide monitor in split-screen mode and plugged in the same laptop via USB-C and HDMI. This might be my favorite set up yet.

@cfs_jo @AmeliaNGibson I've had a manager who was against remote work. Once he told me, that when he's working at home he feels tmpted to watch Netflix. That explained everything instantly to me 🙂

@AmeliaNGibson I was always suspicious of people who thought home workers weren’t putting the hours in. I think it says more about *their* work ethic. Clearly they only work if the boss is watching and think others are the same.

@HellaciousK @FraggleMokey @AmeliaNGibson I assume by "always available" you mean "always available during 9-5 hours". Also, if you're in the office, but others chose to WFH, won't this negate your "solving problem in-person"? 🤔
