Tomorrow marks six years since George Floyd was murdered. While we have made great progress to improve safety and accountability here in Minnesota, we must do more in Washington to honor his legacy by passing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. Progress cannot wait.

@jenteach13 Most teachers in the US are not in unions. Only big cities. Most teachers have no support or limited representation.

Every time a teacher says something true in public, the replies come. Stop complaining. Teachers are the biggest whiners. Leave if you don't like it. You're robbing taxpayers. Think about the teacher two years in, watching that happen to someone with thirty years. Think about what she decides.

@DemzDeliver So they're spending more taxpayer money to pay people to do a job they already should've been doing? How long will it be before we hire people to oversee the overseers?

We need to kill this narrative. Over the last few years, the concerns about tech in K-12 had little to do with test scores. The concerns were psychological, social, and spiritual. Don't let the media do this "oh, scores haven't improved" thing. It'll be a back door for tech to return.
Marc Porter Magee 🎓@marcportermagee

“The share of students using cellphones in class for nonacademic reasons declined to 13 percent from 61 percent in schools using the pouches … But test scores have not increased … Still, teachers have been thrilled with the change, reporting fewer distractions” — @DanaGoldstein

I FULLY support increasing teachers pay, but… this is not about teachers pay. Dems have co-opted teachers around the country into protesting against the current administration. All in the name of an obvious issue, low salaries. It’s smoke and mirrors, folks. The number of administrators has grown 20 times larger than the number of students. Admissions are declining. Literacy is declining. The real answer if you actually care about teachers… Mass deportations and firing of bloated administrations.
Congresswoman Deborah Ross@RepDeborahRoss

I am standing in full solidarity with the thousands of NC teachers marching for fair pay and proper school funding. Some facts: - NC is 50th in public school funding - NC is 46th in teacher pay - Wake County faces $16M in cuts this year Today, our educators are putting everything on the line to ensure every student gets the resources they deserve.

@FranklyTherese @FixingEducation What are your thoughts on students having 48 hours to do the retake? In addition, before they are allowed to do the retake they have to make up all missing assignments. Students will not be penalized for a retake, they will get all points earned.

When schools require teachers to offer retakes & accept late work, they also need to provide teachers the extra time those requirements take.

What are the costliest areas of WASTE in school district spending? 1. 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗮𝘁. Growth in non-instructional roles often outpaces classroom needs. 2. 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 3. 𝗜𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀. Schools often buy expensive or quickly outdated technology without a clear implementation plan, resulting in wasted funds. 4. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 & 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀. Districts overpay for resources that are underused or replaced too frequently. 5. 𝗜𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗗 6. 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀. Districts frequently implement new initiatives without properly assessing their effectiveness, leading to repeated cycles of expensive but ineffective programs. 7. 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝘄𝘀𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘀. Many districts face high costs from lawsuits, often due to poor policy enforcement, special education disputes, or mismanagement. 8. 𝗣𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀. Mostly due to poor regulation.

A conectar ideas, a anticipar consecuencias, a tener criterio propio. No pude hacer otra cosa que aplaudirla 👏👏

@FixingEducation Graduating with a diploma used to mean something. Today, of the 3.7-3.9 mil students graduating & receiving diplomas, only 22% are proficient in math & 35% in reading. Diplomas for all, just like participation trophies. These same illiterate kids are preyed upon by colleges.

How did we get to a point where students can miss 50+ days, struggle with basic reading and math, and still get promoted? Then we act surprised when they’re years behind. This didn’t happen overnight…it’s been building for decades.

@AmyHockert There are plenty of studies showing learning cursive helps and enhances reading and spelling. It's not simply a nice thing to have and perhaps there's a correlation to the sorry state of reading and learning.
