U.S. Chamber@USChamber·
The U.S. Chamber hears from American farmers, workers and business owners about the harm inflicted by broad-based tariffs—including higher costs and economic uncertainty—every day. We appreciate your leadership, @RepJeffHurd, to assert the role of Congress in making trade policy and protecting the hardworking Coloradans in your district.
Rep. Jeff Hurd@RepJeffHurd

Today’s vote is grounded first and foremost in the Constitution. Article I gives Congress the authority to regulate commerce with foreign nations and to levy tariffs. Over time, Congress has delegated limited authority to the Executive Branch, particularly in matters involving national emergencies. But those delegations were never intended to serve as a permanent vehicle for sweeping, long-term trade policy. If we normalize broad emergency trade powers today, we should expect that a future president—of either party—will rely on the same authority in ways many of us would strongly oppose. Institutional consistency matters. The Constitution does not shift depending on who occupies the White House. My responsibility is to defend the separation of powers regardless of political convenience. I also represent Western and Southern Colorado, and my constituents are directly affected by these policies. Agricultural producers in my district already operate on tight margins in volatile global markets. Retaliatory tariffs add pressure to their exports and supply chains. At the same time, the largest steel rail mill in the United States, also in my district, depends on stable market conditions and predictable costs. When trade policy becomes unpredictable, it affects payrolls, investment decisions, and long-term planning. I support the goal of strengthening American industry. Where I differ is on the method. My obligation is to defend both my district and the constitutional framework that protects us over the long term. This is not a partisan calculation; it is an economic and institutional one. Strong trade policy requires durability, transparency, and Congressional accountability. That is how we protect American industry while preserving the separation of powers that safeguards our republic.

Tonight, I voted YES on the Save America Act because protecting the integrity of our elections is a core responsibility of Congress. Requiring identification to vote is a straightforward step that strengthens public confidence in the outcome. Only American citizens should vote in American elections. That principle is clear, and I will continue to defend it. #CO03

I am horrified to hear ICE murdered another person in Minneapolis this morning. This violence is wreaking havoc on our communities and it must stop. The President needs to remove these federal agents from our cities now. Kristi Noem must resign and the dehumanizing policies must end immediately.

Secretary Noem has been a disaster at DHS. Under her “leadership,” ICE is killing people, separating families, and terrorizing our communities. Secretary Noem should resign. But no matter who’s in charge, ICE’s abuses are deeper. There needs to be immediate, fundamental changes.

Proud to join the March for Life today in Washington. Every life has dignity, and every child deserves a chance. The energy here was remarkable—thousands of people from across the country, including nearly 400 students from University of Notre Dame who traveled to take part. Seeing the next generation show up with conviction, compassion, and courage is genuinely inspiring.

THIS IS AN ABJECT LIE. The child was ABANDONED by his father, a criminal illegal alien from Ecuador, who fled from our officers. Our officers ensured the child was SAFE. Does your heart also ache for the thousands of families who have lost loved ones to violent, criminal illegal alien MURDERERS? You haven’t tweeted about those Angel Families once.

Enforcing the law is one thing. Terrorizing a population, using children as pawns, is another. My heart aches for Liam Ramos and his family. mprnews.org/story/2026/01/…

"We’re out here to arrest dangerous criminal illegal aliens so they can’t victimize innocent people in our communities anymore. Since, the beginning of this operation, we've arrested three over 3,400 illegal aliens... Those are criminals who won't reoffend in our communities." - Marcos Charles, Acting Exec. Associate Director for ICE ERO DHS is incredibly proud of law enforcement's continued work to remove the WORST OF THE WORST from our communities.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we remember a man who believed that justice, equality, and peaceful protest could change a nation—and history proved him right. Martin Luther King Jr. once asked, “What are you doing for others?” That question still challenges us to look beyond ourselves and serve something greater. Today, we honor his legacy by recommitting to the values he championed: justice, equality, service, and the belief that we can build a better future together.

All @ICEgov candidates are subject to months of rigorous training and selection at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center where they are trained in everything from deescalation tactics to firearms to driving training. Homeland Security Investigations candidates receive more than 100 days of specialized training. Standard training for future Enforcement and Removal Operations training is 8 weeks. These training courses are run by seasoned officers who are experts in their field.   Many are veterans with combat experience, and 85% of officers have prior law enforcement experience.   After receiving more than 220,000 applications to join ICE from patriotic Americans, ICE blew past its original hiring target of 10,000 new officers and agents within a year. In fact, we have more than doubled our officers and agents from 10,000 to 22,000. With these new patriots on the team, we will be able to accomplish what many say was impossible and fulfill President Trump’s promise to make America safe again.
Jessica Tarlov@JessicaTarlov

ICE needs real reform now. That means real training (not 47 days), actually going after people with convictions, no more “show me your papers,” practicing de-escalation, and agents clearly identifying themselves. This isn’t radical—it’s basic accountability.

"This bill succeeded because it focused on a real problem and offered a straightforward solution. It was not partisan. It was not complicated. It was the kind of policy that makes sense to people who live close to the land." Wetlands in #CO03 provide essential habitat for waterfowl and other migratory birds. When wetlands are lost or degraded, the consequences extend well beyond wildlife. Airports are essential gateways for our communities, and they deserve financing options that meet the moment. My bill, the Airport TIFIA Financing Certainty Act, restores and strengthens this critical tool so airports can modernize safely and efficiently without new burdens on local taxpayers. Grateful to Rep. John Garamendi (D-CA) for co-leading this bipartisan effort to support the airports that keep Colorado and our country connected. #CO03 ✈️ Read my full release here: hurd.house.gov/media/press-re…

Visited Care and Share Food Bank in Pueblo, which is on the front lines helping families across southern Colorado put food on the table. With the shutdown halting SNAP benefits, food banks like this are carrying an even greater load. Care and Share’s team is stepping up, but they shouldn’t have to do it alone. I urge my Senate Democratic colleagues to pass the House’s simple funding bill to reopen the government and restore nutrition assistance for #CO03 families in need.

Even during a shutdown, Tribal communities shouldn’t face uncertainty about essential care. I appreciate Secretary Kennedy’s commitment to keeping the Indian Health Service operating. As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Indian and Insular Affairs, I’ll keep working to ensure federal promises to Tribal nations are honored—no matter the politics in Washington. 🇺🇸 #CO03 nativenewsonline.net/opinion/hhs-se…

Stopped by the West End Family Link Center in Nucla to thank them for serving rural Colorado through food assistance, utility support, and financial counseling. With the Democrat-led shutdown in the Senate, SNAP benefits are on hold—leaving food banks like this on the front lines helping families in need. House Republicans did our job and passed a clean bill over a month ago to keep the government open and protect these benefits. I urge Senate Democrats to end the shutdown and get help flowing again to our most vulnerable citizens. #CO03 🇺🇸

Toured the future Western Uranium & Vanadium processing site near Nucla with Grant and George Glasier. This facility is critical to reducing America's dependence foreign minerals and rare earth element processing, and to powering American energy dominance through safe, reliable, and clean nuclear energy. Projects like this mean good jobs for #CO03 families and a stronger future for America. 🇺🇸
