The Winning Difference
The Winning Difference@thewinningdiff1·
"Everybody wants to win. Everybody doesn't necessarily want to prepare to win. You have to learn to love the process that will put you in a position to achieve greatness." Winning is public. Preparation is private. And most of the time, the private work decides the public result.

A mentor once told me: "One of the biggest reasons people stay stuck is that you can’t keep one foot in your old life and one in your new one. There’s no halfway version of growth. Decide who you want to be, and act like it. Every single damn day."

Neither overturned goal should've counted, but ... - 1st: Parayko turnover, crossed up with Tucker, unless he was looking further up the ice. - 2nd: Parayko rims the puck, turning it over. Flames through the neutral zone easy with the Blues changing, several players watching.

What do people think goalie coaches do? A 29 year old goalie has developed 25 years of habits. Telling them something doesn’t just result in them doing it. Habits need to be broken and then rebuilt through repetition. NHL goalie coaches real job is unqualified psychologist. Good goaltending is a mix of physical abilities and elite reading and anticipation of what is about to occur. And then making a decision on the best save selection based on that expected scenario playing out. If an approaching play needs you to hold your edges to create more time for you to read the situation and give you 10 outcomes and then 10 solutions, and you decide to drop down, then you may be cutting your options to 5. So you have reduced your success rate by 50%. And sometimes a goalie cuts their option from 10 options to 1 and it works. That isn’t good goaltending it is fortunate. Goalie coaches can point this out, but retraining physical habits and mental discipline doesn’t happen in 10 days. A great defensive structure though can take a goalie who always cuts their options in half and funnel things into simpler decisions. Clear sight shots. And this has way more impact on a goalies career than their in-house psychologist.

As part of a team you have to realize that sometimes you’ll be on the bench. When that happens you have 2 options: you can either sit & wait your turn or you can be active & engaged in helping your TEAM win. You can encourage others or be selfish. There’s really only one option!

Are you Coachable? Coachable: “What can I do better?” Uncoachable: “I already know this.” Coachable: “I’ll take responsibility.” Uncoachable: “It’s not my fault.” Coachable: “I’ll put in the work.” Uncoachable: “I don’t have time.” Be Coachable.

Leaders with good judgment listen for what’s unsaid. They surround themselves with people who will tell them what they need to know — not what they want to hear. And they think carefully about the risks of implementation — even for small projects. s.hbr.org/3buBYK4

What’s the difference between a PRO, a PROSPECT, and an AMATEUR? PROS - Do the same things, the same way, consistently over time. PROSPECTS - Do some things consistently over time. AMATEURS - Do most things consistently inconsistent. Consistency Creates Excellence

No one became great by doing just ‘enough.’ Enough might make you good, but it’s not enough to become great. No one got to the top by cruising along. They put in the extra time and effort others weren’t willing to do.
