According to documents filed this morning by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of NY, ICE has been lying for a year — not only to the public, but to the courts and to prosecutors — about being authorized to make arrests at 26 Federal Plaza and other immigration courts.
This is genuinely a bombshell. All courthouse arrests should cease immediately. There should be a Congressional investigation & civil rights actions for every illegal abduction of immigrants trying to follow the rules and appear in court.

We’ve just been at the funeral of two young volunteer paramedics in southern Lebanon - killed in a direct Israeli strike… one was only 16 years old
They were killed whilst wearing their full kit according to witnesses - returning from the scene of an earlier strike
The deliberate targeting of healthcare workers is a war crime but Israel has killed dozens here in recent weeks (and many more in 2024 and in Gaza)

🚨 NEW: IDF drops indictment against soldiers videotaped sexually abusing Palestinian detainee at Sde Teiman
➤ Israel’s Military Advocate General Itay Offir canceled the indictment against five IDF soldiers, citing evidentiary and procedural problems, according to The Jerusalem Post.
➤ The soldiers were accused of sexually assaulting a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman military detention facility, including sodomizing him with a sharp object.
➤ Medical reports found the detainee suffered fractured ribs, chest trauma, and a perforated rectum that required surgery. The Israeli soldiers claimed they were acting in self-defense.
➤ Prosecutors said the case was complicated after video of the abuse was leaked by the former Military Advocate, who later resigned, and after the detainee was released back to Gaza before testifying.
➤ Defense Minister Israel Katz welcomed the decision, calling the case a “blood libel against IDF soldiers.”
He added that “the role of the IDF’s legal system is to protect and safeguard IDF soldiers who engage heroically in war.”

Iran faces several separatist and autonomy-seeking movements along both its western and eastern frontier. In the southeast, particularly in Sistan and Baluchestan where Saravan is located, there is a long-running insurgency led by ethnic Baloch groups.
Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice) is currently the most active militant group in the region, a Sunni Salafist organization that frequently attacks Iranian border guards and officials.
A sustained bombing campaign in Iran’s southeast may aim to weaken Tehran’s control over the region and create openings for separatist groups operating along the Pakistan border.

An update from my friend and colleague in Beirut: the bombing hasn’t stopped. Israeli airstrikes are still hitting the city this afternoon.
The destruction from last night’s attacks is overwhelming. It’s the next afternoon and thousands of people still remain on the streets, along highways and by the sea, after being forced from their homes. Many had to break their Ramadan fast as their neighborhoods were being bombed.
No new evacuation orders have been issued and so Israel appears to still be relying on the one from yesterday while continuing to strike buildings and entire neighborhoods in what seems to be a random pattern.
