Going to multiple teams on a regular basis or switching teams is not really a thing here. Most who actually go do also pay to stream (I’m watching Bournemouth v Palace now). You can generally tell if someone at a game is a tourist by whether they’ve bought merchandise. Regulars might buy a shirt every now and again. By me yesterday at Brentford there were a couple of people wearing shirts from the mid-90s which they bought back then. I wore my 21-22 shirt. It’s not a cheap pastime. The most economic way to watch, particularly if not a supporter of any one team is to go to your local pub.

Apparently it is cheaper to watch teams live at the stadium than watching on TV. I once saw clip where they were explaining how it works.

@botzarelli @alexsithole Butthose ticket fees would be for only a single team. Non including transport, food drinks and merchandise. People justv love and relate to teams more than we do in SA

@alexsithole Season tickets for adults typically cost £500-£1000. Away tickets in the PL are capped at £30. Subscribing to all the streaming services in the UK, which would not give Saturday 3pm games, would cost about £1200 a year.

It lowers the bargaining power of local workers, increases burden on social services and bad for sovereignty

@MkhontoMzulu @IvynSambo Please be honest, you are ok with chaos in entry gates and people smoking or peeing in the stands? I take my kids to games in Europe but had to turn back with my kids from Sundowns car games because of the chaos.

@IvynSambo And as a person who has watched football in England and Spain, there’s not much difference. We are just more vibrant and engaging. People who want something else should just chase that.

I said this before, but I’ll say it again. If you go to a PSL game with the mindset of comparing the PSL to European football or the rugby experience, please stay home don’t go to the game. We, as normal PSL fans, buy tickets, jerseys, and watch most of the games because we are okay with the football experience as it is. If we want change, we will advocate for it on our own terms, without comparing the PSL to European football or rugby!

When you watch a match involving the Springboks or even a franchise like the Bulls, there is a certain predictability to the operation , the access, movement, timing, flow. Everything works. Yes not perfectly, but with a level of consistency that respects the paying spectator. Then comes the SOWETO Derby . Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates and suddenly the basics are overlooked . You are bound to be subjected to congestion and all manner of frustrations that give a sense that the system is reacting rather than managing. Before anyone reaches for the usual explanations crowd size, passion, intensity nyhwe nyhwe kwatsha kwacima o kele wabona yada-yada; none of the above are new variables. They are known conditions. Which means they should be anticipated and planned for and thus not used as excuses. Why do similar venues, under the oversight of bodies like the Premier Soccer League, deliver such inconsistent experiences depending on the code being played? If one code, in this case rugby, can get the fundamentals right more often than not, then the blueprint exists. Is this a coordination failure, a standards problem, or are we simply accepting soccer fans aren’t worthy of a beautiful out of stadium user experience??

@CaptSpringbok Unfortunately SARU is too dumb to make a sustainable league. They bottled Springboks popularity, two world cups, schoolboy rugby and varsitt rugby. Still no love games on TV unless you are on DSTV premium. Instead they beg tiny nations to include them.

We have the Currie Cup, the oldest domestic rugby competition in the world. The Premiership clubs don’t even want the Welsh teams in their league, yet they keep going back with a begging bowl. If the South African teams are eventually pushed out, and things in rugby do change, you’ll soon hear how much those games are missed, how the quality of the competition has dropped, and how players aren’t being exposed to the same level of physicality. That ultimately impacts the Test teams.
