@THE_GigiHorn @FixingEducation A lot of schools around us use Wednesday as the “off day”. Teachers report, used for PD, planning, meetings, and others. Results have been lower discipline issues, higher attendance, better teacher retention, and reduced costs for bussing, food service, and cleaning.

@FixingEducation Noooo! Four day school weeks is a farce. Teachers do not use the 5th day to work on stuff. Parents still take kids out early on the 4th day. There is no time to catch up absent kids on missing work. Three day weekends is a long time for kids to miss instruction. DOES NOT work.

A 4-day school week for students could be a win for EVERYONE. TEACHERS could finally use the 5th day to catch up on their insane workload. STUDENTS could participate in off-campus activities, jobs, appointments, or extracurriculars without living minute-to-minute every day. And before people object because they view schools as daycares, families would adjust…just like they do for summer break, holidays, snow days, and teacher workdays.

This mom wishes teachers would stop offering recovery work and just put the zeros in the gradebook. Me, too, but it's not always up to them. I've seen posts where teachers say admin went in & CHANGED grades to make students pass.

BREAKING: FedEx driver who pleaded guilty to kidnapping and murdering 7-year-old Athena Strand, has been sentenced to death. Tanner Horner snatched Athena while he was delivering a Barbie doll to her home in Paradise, Texas. At one point during the trial, jurors broke down in tears while hearing audio of Horner killing Athena after he told her to take off her shirt and said she was "really pretty." Athena repeatedly asked for her mother before she was killed. "Horner is then heard asking Athena to remove her shirt, and there are several moments when she says "no" and asks for her mom. That was followed by repeated sounds of crying, screaming and banging," NBC reported last month. Following three hours of deliberation today, Horner was sentenced to death by lethal injection.
