What I’m baffled by is the UK’s inability to recognise the Iranian Regime as a mortal and longstanding enemy with the intent to acquire and use nuclear weapons to destroy others. It’s Stockholm syndrome on a massive, national scale; the product of decades of infiltration and subversion, compounded by institutional anti-semitism across Whitehall and an allergic, hysterical reaction to Trump’s unique style. Well-known journalists and members of British civil society will actually promote the Putin-like architects of Iranian mass murder as reasonable guys “that you can do business with”, whilst branding those in Washington as ‘war criminals’. It’s a national manipulation of a scale that would have defied even Goebbels’ warped imagination. Is the judgement of our desperate, insecure, post-Christian, post-industrial society so corrupted that it sees barbarians as friends and allies as enemies? Have the ‘clever cowards’, and value-free, ‘conflict resolution gurus’ that we elect as our leaders declared nationalism illegal, our history shameful, principles worthless and made everything negotiable? Is nothing worth fighting for?

There is a London-based, diplomacy-at-all-costs, “conflict resolution society”, born in 1998, that has captured FCDO, most of MOD and other government agencies and is convinced that providing hospitality to the IRGC and the Iranian Regime is the only way to deliver change in Iran…. They have also captured the NSC. They are utterly delusional but totally dominant. Recognize that, and you can understand the UK policy on Iran, and other matters..

The UK knew this very well at the time, but wouldn’t call it out for “diplomatic reasons”…. It also knew that the withdrawal of UK forces from Maysan province would increase the flow of Iranian EFPs into central Iraq, and inevitably lead to the death of many more Americans..

@GenFlynn is correct; and let’s not forget it was the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps that directly, (and via its proxies) that killed UK forces deployed Iraq, pushing them out of the way, to allow that IRGC to kill Americans in their hundreds with their EFP off-route mines.

Ukraine is indirectly helping bring down dictators all over the globe by tying up their main patron, Russia. There’s a reason dissidents from Iran and Venezuela feel such affinity with Ukrainians. They share a common enemy and a common fight.

As with Venezuela, an attempt to end the brutal terrorist regime in Iran is a worthy endeavor. But also as with Venezuela, Trump may be looking for personal advantages that leave Iranians unable to seize the opportunity to live in freedom that all people deserve.

It is now clear that - bar a few v professional exceptions - the last couple of days of reporting on defence and security proved that the only thing worse than the state of the UK military, is the state of British top newspapers journalism reporting about it. Seriously.

Not just a race issue. It’s casually slurring every Irish person who’s come to this country, built everything etc. every Ukrainian refuge etc.

It was great to catch up with my old friend and the UK’s (relatively!) new Ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson @UKinUSA.
