Kyagulanyi is asking a major partner, that has provided support to the current regime, to tie future assistance to basic human rights, fair elections, and the rule of law. We can condemn U.S. hypocrisy globally while demanding the same standards at home. The two are not contradictory. Pan-Africanism does not mean shielding repressive govts from accountability just because the external actor is flawed. It means putting African lives and dignity first.
