I am so devastated to hear of the murder of Imam Muhsin Hendricks, gunned down today in Gqeberha. It is very likely a homophobic hate crime. Hendricks (57) ran the Inner Circle, South Africa's first support group for LGBTQ+ Muslims. My condolences to his loved ones 💔 🕊

Fellowship at Paris Photo Fair As we prepare for our third year at @ParisPhotoFair, we’re taking a moment to reflect on how our approach has evolved, and as always, exploring the intersections of photography, digital art, and AI. In our first year, we focused on introducing NFT art to the fair, becoming the first gallery to present a full booth of NFT artworks in this setting. Our goal was simple: to start a conversation about digital art within a traditional photography space, showcasing works from August Sander, Gregory Crewdson, Guy Bourdin, @dmitricherniak, @tanifrancoklein, @crypto_sultana, and @cristinaDmiddel. Our second year built on that foundation, blending NFTs with printed AI-generated images. This mix of digital and physical works featured a range of artists—from emerging voices to established photographers. It was our way of showing how new and traditional art forms can coexist and inspire each other. That edition presented @elmanmansimov's alignDRAW, the first text-to-image model, alongside AI works from @rainisto, @EvergreenDazed, @SimmonsLaurie, and @SimonRaion, as well as photographs from @joelmeyerowitz and @yatreda. This year, for Paris Photo 2024, we’re focusing on AI art’s evolving role. We’re presenting three projects by @TrevorPaglen, @HollyHerndon, and @matdryhurst that explore how AI and human creativity intersect. These works represent a critical moment in AI’s development, mirroring some of the shifts that photography has undergone over time. Each year, our booth at Paris Photo has aimed to open up new perspectives on art and technology. We’re grateful to be part of this ongoing dialogue and to share these ideas with you again this year. This is our booth for this edition:

New investigation by @ri_veksica, @MatjazT and Melanie Wenger: The Mura-Drava-Danube nature reserve is more than 700km long, rich in biodiversity, and full of forests, meadows and wetlands. What can go wrong when five countries together need to manage it? t.ly/IimmF

Back from the one of the most incredible trips in Mongolia! Amazing people, spectacular nature and ultimate freedom. Leica SL3 was the right choice for this trip. Big thx to Leica Shanghai for lending me one.

A small note on this collection: Two of the Carpoolers NFTs are now part of the @SFMOMA permanent collection. The Museum has been actively researching and collecting NFT work for a couple of years. I had the pleasure of visiting them and spending a day with their conservators and curators, talking about NFTs and their role in museum collections. Thank you to @tonyherrera and @fellowshiptrust for donating these pieces to the museum last year. x.com/fellowshiptrus… A bit of my history with previous shows in the museum: x.com/halecar2/statu…

CARPOOLERS NFTs: LEAP OF FAITH AND WRONG EXPECTATIONS In 2020, I was approached to do my first NFTs. The idea felt alien, but because of so many canceled events IRL during the pandemic, I thought, let's do it. Of course, nothing happened in terms of connecting with people in the space, and I didn't sell anything. Why? My expectations were way off and I was not approaching the NFT space with respect. Fast forward to early 2021, and I decided to try it again, and now I would inform myself of the context in which my art would work. Think of it this way: if you try to do a book thinking you select and edit like it was an exhibition or vice versa, design an exhibition as if it were a book or a website, it just doesn't translate. There are subtle differences, but they can translate wrongly if not taken into consideration. I won't go into detail about what the new perspective was and how I came to it, but one thing that was clear was that I needed to talk about the "collection" language, which in the traditional art space we call projects. I've always worked on projects, and when I first had a go at selling 1/1s randomly, the work, well, was not translating. It was when I decided to offer the work as a collection on @foundation that things changed. The crazy part of the story is that FDN didn't have collections or individual smart contracts at that time. Part of what happened with Carpoolers led to them offering this in their ecosystem. Long story short, on April 13th, 2021 (my birthday), I decided to mint my first NFTs on ETH and start building my collection even if the tools didn't offer this. The first 3 pieces were minted, then a few more on April 29th, and the May 6th and so on. The slow minting was partly because I was coming to the realization that this was a collection but nothing in the marketplace tools offered that idea. It was a leap of faith to do it. FDN team can tell this story! and how they were uncertain of me pushing the work that way and if it would work. This small story is to show how things have changed in 3 years in web3 and also to say thank you to the new collectors of 5 of the most important works of my NFT practice. You are holding the spark that led me to build @obscuradao and @fellowshiptrust! Thank you for holding these works into the future. They are REALLY important to me. Take care of them 🌟🌟

In a week, I'll be exhibiting my biggest artwork in the world's largest astronomy museum in Shanghai. It looks like architectural madness. I'll tell you if I see the bull run from the moon.
