@eBay Hi @eBay, I accidentally scratched off part of my eBay gift card code while removing the seal. Is there a way you can help me recover or replace it? Thank you.

Iran nuclear. A military observation on the Fordow enrichment complex. It is not a missile silo with two officers and launch keys, it is a factory with maybe dozens of techs and monitors coming and going. Wrecking all the entrances could make the place useless--no need for MOABs.

@bruceanderson Was Poliviere channeling Neville Chamberlain from 1938 about Germany's ambition to seize lands in Czechoslovakia? "A quarrel in a far away country between people of whom we know nothing."

Poilievre referred to Ukraine as a "far off distant land". It was the coldest shoulder he has yet turned to Ukraine. This is deliberate (to ping his base) but amounts to a green light for Putin.

The Conservative Party has again voted against the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade agreement in the House of Commons, despite calls from the Ukrainian Canadian Congress to vote in favour of the deal. The Liberals, NDP, Bloc and Green Party all voted in favour #cdnpoli

@lrozen Yes. And when you are in doubt, err on the side of caution. I would never have got into trouble for putting stuff on the high side that could have gone lower. But the reverse?!

@AlexRMcColl @glen_mcgregor Since 2002 Canada has spent a billion dollars developing its supply chain for the F-35. Even now, before the actual purchase of the aircraft, Lockheed Canada is making parts for F-35's sold to other countries including the US. Simply cancelling the purchase is not a simple matter

@glen_mcgregor With 16 F35As ordered, to cancel would mean walking away from billions. That said, we should have over 120 jets. A reduction in the F-35 order to around 44 for specialized fighter-bomber/SEAD squadrons while 88 Halifax-made Gripens focus on NORAD/NATO air policing would work.

Defence minister Bill Blair, on CBC, just said the government and DND are examining whether they will acquire all 88 F-35 fighter jets on order, or whether “other investments” might be better for Canada. “We are being compelled to look at options.” Wow.

@mhmck We've been paying into F-35 development and manufacturing since 2002. For reference see DND doc "Canada's Next Generation Fighter Capability : The Joint Strike Fighter F-35 Lightning II, 2010-07-16" By 2010 probably CAN$1 billion, and that's before announced purchase.

Canada is in the same position as Portugal, with F-35s on order. Also, the United States is threatening to annex Canada and has not ruled out the use of armed force. Canada should cancel the F-35 contract and buy Gripens from Sweden or Rafales from France to replace our CF-18s.
EMPR.media@EuromaidanPR

Portugal: 'We have to be able to count on the predictability of our allies, which is no longer the case with the United States'. Portugal has cancelled the order for F-35s from the #US and will replace their F-16s with European fighters.

Peter Ratcliffe, forever Canadian 🇨🇦
Never buy combat aircraft from an enemy that can disable those aircraft at will. It’s a trap in a future world war. The threat potential that the US is indeed Canada’s enemy is off the charts high. Cancel the F-35 and buy Eurofighters. Canada fits that supply chain well.

@Chasingharmony1 @liberal_party I have had the same problem. For days. The last response was from the Ottawa-Vanier constituency office: show up at a certain Canada Post office at time certain. I could not manage the trip. So I am out. This kind of gross mismanagement is not good for confidence in the LP.

Would cancelling Canada's $19-billion purchase of the American F-35 fighter jet be an unfair "disproportionate" response to the Trump tariffs?

@ssolyom Canada is likely way too deep with the F-35s, payments and purchase schedules and the like. Canada even makes parts for F-35s and has for years. We bought in early.

@MarcGarneau Well said sir. The biggest $ expense is capital equipment, F-35s and so on. There aren't enough F-35s for US armed forces. Or submarines or surface combatants. F-35s are CAN$ 120 million a pop--$18 billion for 88 of them. DND paid for 16 in 2024.

Anyone who promises to bring Canada’s defence spending to 2% of GDP by 2027 (that’s 2 1/2 years) does not understand military procurement (and it can’t be done just through well-justified military salary increases).

Right, be honest. Raise your hand if you’ve ever stuck a part on, let the glue dry, and then realised it’s incorrectly placed and had to take a precision cutting tool to it to correct it. My hand is raised - a wing, of all things… placed upside down while trying to multitask…
