One of the persistent misunderstandings I see in the space is the role of 24/7 payments or CBDCs vs. crypto.
To me, they are solving two different problems and I think both crypto people and central bankers have really misunderstood this.

Arguing that FedNow eliminates the need for crypto (or even stablecoins) is like arguing in 2005 that replacing VHS rented from blockbuster with DVDs eliminated the need for streaming. P.S. FedNow is 25 year old tech. America is just really late to the game.

The Fed Funds target rate (4.75-5.00%) remains well below headline CPI (6.0%), but: It is now below the falling core-PCE rate (4.6%). So perhaps neutral is tighter than it seems.

@MilesPember My short answer here is its possible, but easier to vary spending than taxes & the spending would still need limitations on it. You are not going to get the spending equivalent of the Fed. Funnily enough,the "insurance assessments" @ FDIC are a kind of discretionary fiscal policy

This op ed from Yeva Nersisyan and Randy Wray is excellent. It captures exactly what a lot of people miss in these conversations- there is always an idiosyncratic story to each failure but overly focusing on that is myopic. There's a bigger picture here.
