@BuzzPatterson I don’t believe it’s incompetence. I believe it’s intentional. If it was any other President security would have been air tight.

@BillMelugin_ @FoxNews If nothing else comes from this, there needs to be a realization that venues like this for Presidential events just are not safe anymore. Additionally, if SS did fire their weapons, how is it he was not hit? That warrants review and immediate action.

BREAKING: A senior White House official tells @FoxNews that President Trump & the WH are standing by Secret Service leadership and a meeting will be held this week to review security protocols. Statement to FOX: “President Trump and the White House are standing by the leadership of Secret Service, and President Trump has said he personally thinks they did an excellent job neutralizing the shooter and moving the President, First Lady, Vice President and cabinet to safety. Nevertheless, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is convening a meeting early this week with the White House operations team, USSS, and DHS leadership to discuss protocol and practices for major events involving POTUS. The meeting will discuss the processes and procedures that worked to stop Saturday’s attempt, while exploring additional options to ensure all relevant components are doing everything possible to secure the many major events planned for President Trump in the months ahead as he gears up to celebrate America 250.”

@BillMelugin_ @lbc360 @FoxNews They are naive, I’m afraid. No other President has had this kind of lazy, seemingly inept security. Kudos to the ones who appear to jump in and remove him…but even they are like molasses. Security wouldn’t have been that relaxed if it was Obama instead of Trump.

Who else misses the boring, no-drama days of @JoeBiden? No chaos. No circus. No daily embarrassment. Just quiet competence from a president who actually knew how to do the job.

A Daily Beast editor had the hotel room next door to the alleged WHCD attacker. “How on earth could someone with a disassembled long gun check into a room at a hotel where the president was going to speak? I can answer that: Nobody even looked at my luggage on Friday afternoon. Worse, my colleague arrived on Saturday at 5 p.m. Nobody looked at his luggage either: No magnometers, no hand checks, no I.D. checks. Nothing.” thedailybeast.com/i-slept-next-t…

America will not be lectured about civility by far right extremists in Congress. Particularly those who provide aid and comfort to hundreds of violent rioters who brutally beat police officers on January 6. There will be ample time to vigorously debate the issues of the day. Now is a time to unify.

I’m fascinated by how obsessed Trump is with his ballroom but still unsure why he wants it so bad. There is definitely an untold story there that goes beyond him just wanting a larger event space.

@brianstelter Coming that close to experiencing the violent consequences yourselves of ten years of dehumanizing rhetoric should open some eyes and cause some soul searching. But I’m not very optimistic that will happen.

Trump very easily could have blamed the media last night, but instead, he basically said "we're all in this together."

Yes. My position is that reporters shouldn’t get dressed up in a tux to have some laughs with the terrible president. I also oppose trying to shoot the president (or anyone). These opinions coexist very easily if you don’t have a baby brain.
Megan Basham@megbasham

@Timodc I’m sorry, you and your organization have spent the last week saying that journalists should not even sit down with the president for a pleasant dinner that is an annual tradition. You are absolutely part of the problem.

@davidaxelrod @BarackObama The difference is that SS seems to be able to keep tight enough security around Obama that shooters didn’t repeatedly keep coming within a few breaths of blowing his head off.

I was with my friend @BarackObama in 2007, the day he, as a candidate, was assigned Secret Service protection, Laura, because of the intense nature and volume of threats against him. We've seen Dems and Rs targeted. This is an American problem. So maybe it's you who should give it a rest?
Laura Ingraham@IngrahamAngle

Give it a rest, David. Focus on rooting out the assassination culture and anti-American bile in your own once great party.

@BillMelugin_ @mkolken So the question is are these repeated security lapses intentional? Seems to me that the POTUS, and countless others are intentionally being left vulnerable.

My thoughts on the security at the WHCD last night. The first exterior security for me was on the street outside of the hotel. I flashed my ticket and was waved through in one second. My name was not checked against any list, I showed no ID, I was not patted down and did not go through a metal detector. I probably could have shown a ticket from a prior year or a fake one as they barely looked at it. (I don't know who that exterior security was, they were guys in suits). From that point, I walked into the hotel with no further security check, and I walked down to the Fox pre-party where there were multiple ballrooms that were absolutely PACKED with attendees. Still did not go through any security at that point. Hypothetically, If I had hidden an explosive in my shoe or my jacket, I would have had no problem getting into one of those ballrooms. Only once it was time to get into the main ballroom for the dinner did we pass through magnetometers, empty our pockets, and get a pat down. And even that checkpoint was just outside of the dinner room. Two things can be true at the same time. Secret Service reacted quickly to an active armed threat and prevented that threat from getting into the ballroom. But the security leading up to that point, in my opinion, appeared to be lacking severely.
