Algoma Steel who received half a billion dollars this year courtesy of Canadian tax payers is now laying off 1000 workers. That will be devastating to Sault Ste. Marie. But like Carney said when he was asked when he last talked to Trump, “who cares”

@Rogers I am astounded at the level of support from Rogers and the lack of loyalty to long term customers. Rogers terminated my home internet without notice or reason. A vital service gone in an instant! I can’t see security cameras, control heating, or see emails. Horrible

Musk’s decision to decommission SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft in response to Trump’s threat to cancel government contracts marks a dangerous escalation. This is no longer just a war of words; it is a direct challenge with real consequences for the nation’s space program and economic stability. The stakes could not be higher, and both men must recognize the gravity of this moment. For years, @ElonMusk has driven innovation through SpaceX, reducing reliance on foreign space programs and advancing America’s position in the cosmos. Decommissioning Dragon jeopardizes critical missions, from satellite launches to ISS operations, and could set back progress by years. Trump’s initial statement may have been a negotiating tactic, but it has triggered a reaction that could harm the country far more than either intended. This feud is spiraling out of control, and the Republican Party risks being caught in the crossfire as supporters grapple with divided loyalties. The solution is clear: Musk and Trump need to speak directly and resolve this conflict. A phone call between the two could de-escalate tensions and prevent further damage. Musk’s focus on long-term fiscal responsibility and Trump’s drive for immediate wins can coexist, but only if they find common ground. The country cannot afford to lose the contributions of either figure, nor can it withstand the chaos of their rivalry. This is a pivotal moment. Both men have the power to shape the future, but their current path leads to mutual destruction. For the sake of national interests, they must set aside pride and work together. The GOP, already strained by this rift, cannot endure a prolonged battle between its most influential voices. Cooler heads must prevail.

The promise of Canada made everything possible. Why did my wife, Ana, choose to leave a tropical country to come to a country where it still feels like winter in April? Because only here could a refugee from Venezuela and the son of a teenage mother, adopted and raised by schoolteachers on the prairies, make it to this stage, in this election, fighting for the country they love. To restore that promise for millions more Canadians, we need change. Canada is ready for that change. Vote for change. Vote to put Canada First. Vote Conservative.

Mayor Chow’s choice for Chief Planner will be one of her most important decisions. Will she choose someone committed to the status quo of incremental but insufficient change, or a real reformer who wants to fundamentally remake our planning policies and solve the housing crisis?

@GaucherAndrew @donnelly_b You’d need policies for a complete cultural overhaul. TO is a very different city and culture to what exists in our Neighbourhoods. Guns and mental health are only two that make this a fantasy goal.

@jen_keesmaat Jennifer: very intriguing & makes me ask 1st, if we want to surge rental supply, do we just count on current non-public landlords to expand or do we need to spur new ones to emerge & existing ones to scale up? 2nd, where do capable NFPs come from - how can we grow more of them?

Government tends to function better as a regulator than an operator, in Canada. That's the evidence. Government owned housing in Canada is the most compromised, most poorly managed, most poorly maintained - unfortunately. There are excellent not for profit and private rental management companies in Canada and some that are terrible (including some terrible not-for-profits). Government regulation is the best way to weed out the ones that are terrible to protect the housing needs of Canadians.

@jen_keesmaat Who is going to own the rental housing? The developers aren’t landlords, someone needs to buy them first. We need government owned low cost affordable housing

@CityNewsTO It's entirely achievable if you punish the corporate landlords and urban SFH owners who are the main obstacle.

Canada's national housing agency has warned that millions of homes must be built within less than a decade to balance the housing market, but even it seems doubtful that its own target is achievable. toronto.citynews.ca/2023/08/20/fed…

One of the most damaging events in American history is currently happening. Millions of brainwashed sheep are cheering on the arrest of Donald Trump! The prosecutor in Georgia, Fani Willis, just announced her plan to have him fingerprinted and put in a cell. This is a power trip for her and everyone else who is playing a role in this. They don’t just hate Trump… THEY HATE ALL OF US WHO ARE NOT PART OF THEIR WOKE CULT and they are just using this as an excuse to take out those feelings! This is not a game, though... normalizing legal weaponization for political gain IS A DEATH SENTANCE TO ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY!
